So, do we still give up a 4th rounder for Barlow, if he is no longer on the team? Is it a lesser pick? a 5th? a 6th? a 7th? What about Ramsey, do we still give up the 6th?
Well the 6th is already gone, so definitely... and as for the 4th.. most likely.. Unless something is set in there to say otherwise, which is unlikely.
I sould have asked my questions better. What I was really wanting to know was if the Barlow pick was conditional. For some reason I really thought it was a conditional pick, which would probably not end up being a 4th if he is not on the team and doesnt reach certain stats/playing time levels. I forgot that the Ramsey compensation was last years pick.
Didn't we sign him to a 2 year 4 mil contract 2 years ago, which means we're free of his ass at least... Also clements looked pretty good last week and it would be nice to steal him from the bills!
First off Barrett is a free agent, he signed a 3 year deal. He will be gone. As for Clement, I dont see him getting released, he's been playing great. And Jones has not been too bad himself. As for the rest, yes they are on there way out.
Blanton was a PS guy who had a very good preseason and the team supposively had high hopes for him long term. If we do anything w/ the CB position I see it taking place in FA. We already have 2 young CB's w/ some upside in Coleman and Miller(he's only 22 and has plenty of time to develop). If we're going to truly upgrade it will involve a veteran. I see us making a run at Samuel as Mangini was his position coach for 2 years, and he'd fit well in our scheme.
i thought Barrett got a 5 year deal; i remember being pissed about his deal, but i can't recall the length. and Jones; after his DUI, i can definitely see Mangini giving him the slip. cheers
The way Barrett's deal was structured it's going to be a minimal hit releasing him after this year. I remember an exact quote was he had a 2 year window to prove himself or he'd be cut. Samuel seems like an idea fit but New England never really valued corners the way the rest of the league does. I'm not saying that Mangini is going to use that philosphy too but it's possible. Not a ton of quality right tackles are scheduled to hit the market. Max Starks and Leonard Davis each have the size to play on the strong side but I doubt either one of them will hit the open market and it's unfair to blame it on one player but you usually don't sign offensive lineman from a team like the Cardinals who are getting beat because of poor line play.
Anyone who wants to keep barrett around for what he's making is crazy. That contract was too nice for him and thats when he was projected to be our starter. Too pay him that much for a nickel role (which he would suck at as well) is completely out of the question. Glad to see us cutting some of those guys although I'm a little surprised to see Clement on that list....
