Nobody's saying that Fitz is a pro bowler, but he's got the talent around him and defense to succeed. Anybody that's watched the Jets over the past 5-6 years knows that they could make the playoffs almost every year (except last year) if the QB wasn't a TO machine. That Bills team was horrible with Fitz and they treated the situation like morons by giving him a mega money contract after starting 3-0. The issue wasn't Fitz, it was the rest of the team. They were dog shit and have been for a while. Fitz has never worked with a receiving core this talented, or a defense this great. It's a Bills thing. They are used to thinking about next year because they are never in the playoff picture come December.

Making the playoffs is all that matters and if you consider going 5-1 to close the season "backing into the playoffs" you must really be hurting over there. When's the last time your team even played a meaningful game in November?

Fitz may not be an elite QB but the 3 years as starter in Buffalo he had a bottom 3, bottom 5 and bottom 7 defense (pts). Had they at least had a middling D those years it is quite possible it would not be year 16 of the playoff drought. I guess when your team has nothing to play for the best you can do is go to the opposing teams message board and tell them how bad the QB, that has the team on the brink of the playoffs, is.
As a Bills fan I am sure you would take backing in, being carted in, falling in, what ever would get your team in. Too bad that has not happened in 16 years for them.
because most teams weren't in a position where they had all the pieces minus the QB. young teams would rather try their hand at young talent and hope to get lucky. win now teams already have QBs. Fitz and the jets were both perfect fits for each other.
Regardless of what transpires against Buffalo, Fitzpatrick has made believers out of many of his skeptics. He may not be the most gifted QB in the league, but he is right up there when it comes to leadership and heart, qualities which cannot be measured by statistics. He has made a ton of big plays down the stretch and is excellent at punching it in from inside the 20. He rebounded well after some poor passes and the TD fumble return vs NE. The guy's composure under adversity is extremely impressive, which is what you need late in a tight game.
Actually at the beginning of the year they were telling us how sorry we would be, now that the Jets are on the brink of the playoffs it is, wait till he lets you down next year.
Who gives a shit if he falls apart next season? That's next season. I'll worry about that when the time comes. He was never brought in here to be the long-term answer for the Jets anyway. He was brought in to compete, to push Geno, and mentor Geno and Petty. If he's starting next season and falls apart, so be it. Hopefully Petty will be ready to step up and start. If not, what's the big deal? We were looking for a long term answer at QB when we got Fitz, we're looking for one now, and we'd still be looking for one in that scenario. Nothing to get upset about or lose sleep over. He will have given us more enjoyment than expected this season. Anything else positive he gives is gravy.
Terrell Owens, great physical talent, a locker room cancer and head case. Lee Evans, fast and with some talent, but totally disappeared after a season or two.

Owens was only there 1 season anyway. Fitzpatrick only played half that season with him until they benched Trent Edwards at 1-4. Fitzpatrick went 4-4 with Owens, not that it matters much. Another irrelevant Buffalo Bills season
