What a piece of garbage. He's talking about loyalty? Loyalty is fine, as long as you don't fuck the organiztion in the ass trying to be loyal. 7 solo tackles, and one sack in 14 games with 10 starts doesn't deserve a contract to be honest, let alone a vets minimum. Jets still offered him that contract showing their loyalty. Pats will fuck him in the ass too when this contract is up and then we'll talk about being loyal. He says he's a big boy and wanted the Jets to be straight up with him. Guess what pothead, didn't Tanny tell you that "you are not going to be the starter. We have guys in front of you"??? That's pretty straight up to me. Stop crying like a little girl, you "big boy"!
He deserves a big old mug of STFU. And a bunch of you seem to have forgotten or don't yet know that the money we saved rolls over to this year. So before you start bashing Tanny for not throwing him an extra mil or 2 for his pathetic production, enjoy the extra talent we are able to field next year because of it.
How can you even justify this signing? Just admit it was awful. The guy did nothing all season and got paid $4 mil in a backup role. I couldn't care less about Ellis comments. He was awful and deserved the vet minimum at max. Our backup ends played better than Ellis did this season. It amazes me even with their team in the SB, Pats fans can't admit a bad signing/trade when they see one. I'm sure you guys are still holding out hope for Ocho Cinco, and loved Haynesworth too.

The Pats don't need to be loyal to him. He hasn't played their for 11 years. Fact of the matter is, for an extra million we probably could have signed a career Jets who would have most certainly helped the lockerroom, which as we all saw, was fragile and poisonous. I think Shaun Ellis' contributions over his career deserved a bit more than the minimum and he should have been brought back this year. Just another terrible move by Tanny in the long line of terrible moves. Character is clearly as important as talent in football today.
Ellis stole 4 million from the pats, he probably gets home from training throws his jets jersey on and counts that money over and over
So with inflation, that's about the same amount of money BB stole from Leon Hess. I guess that makes them even.
I don't take any of this stuff personally. The Jets have to build a team within the cap and pay guys like Revis, Mangold, etc, Ellis needs to make what he can before he's done playing because this is it. He was a good Jet for a long time and that doesn't change.
Whatever, let him talk. It's not like he was a tremendous help in getting them to the Super Bowl. It's easy to kick the former team that KNEW your worth when they're down. Mo Wilkerson was more productive than he would have been, and will get better in time. I'm glad the Jets don't overpay veteran fan favorites past their prime, we are not the New York Yankees.
Actually I didn't think Ellis had any complaints. He wanted honesty and the Jets gave it to him. He shouldn't have any complaints. I think Ellis' lack of productivity came mostly from the good play of Carter and Anderson. Eventually they took over most of the snaps that would have gone to Ellis. However since Carter went down, Ellis has gotten more snaps and has been more active. Basically its was just a matter of one team offering $1MM, and another $4MM. Pretty easy decision if you ask me. :wink:. BTW - those 3 bad moves, were countered by these good ones - Waters, Carter, Anderson, Moore, and Mouldin.
Wait the guy played in 3 plays in the AFC Title game, had 14 tackles and 1 sack yet he's taking shots at the Jets for offering him the vet minimum to a team that stood behind him with his *cough* drug issues. Still trying to figure out how they weren't up front with him "Shaun your not going to start" "We're going to offer you the vet min" Shaun must have been smoking some weed before he made that comment.
this is my point - this article seems to suggest that the jets should have given Ellis an improved offer out of some sort of loyalty. it is clear that there is no loyalty anywhere in football if a good servant like Welker is going to get screwed over because it suits the team then no-one else should expect anything diffrent.
Let me start this by saying that I really liked Shaun Ellis a lot. I thought he was a strong part of whatever defensive scheme the Jets were running and he was a guy that other teams schemed around avoiding, especially after JAbe left town. I think the Jets beat the Pats in the playoffs last year in large part because Ellis was one of three or four guys who had career best performances that day. Without Ellis and Cotchery and Sanchez and Harris the Jets don't sniff a win that day. All of that out, I think the Jets let Ellis go at the right time. I think his veteran leadership in the locker room was sorely missed but his performance on the field would not have added much if anything to their results this season. Just as it has not added a lot to the Pats.
Do people think that Ellis offered any veteran leadership? from what i have read it seems the view was he was a lazy player and I cannot recall ever hearign anything about him being a steadying influence on the locker room or a vocal leader a la Ray Lewis.
