IMHO one of the weakest parts of the team is the pass rush. Can you imagine how good AC & Revis would be if we could some how some way get after the passer? That being said SE while a grizzled vet has never been in the class of a all pro DE. If this team wants to rise to be true contender for the VLT then you have to get past your man love for SE & realize he is a average to below average DE at best. Hopefully before this season commences we will be able to find a upgrade to SE who will at least once & while be able to harry the passer.

I am sure on the roster at this moment we have a DE who is at least at SE talent level. If we do not then shame on Tanny

DE is not supposed to rush the passer in a 3-4. Ever.

You my friend have no clue what your saying Ellis as a 3-4 DE is easily above average to very good.

Compare Ngata to Ellis stat wise and see what I mean. I know stats don't mean everything but they do mean a lot.

I don't think you know what you are talking about with this, champ. We lack a pure pass rusher on the blind side and a solid DE on that same side - that is why our pass rush is weak. The strong side of our front 7 is a strength. Shaun Ellis, in 2008, was tied with Richard Seymour for the most sacks by 3-4 defensive ends, and in 2009 was third in sacks in the same category.

He's aging, and he's getting nicked up, and it's probably smart to play the odds and go young at his position in 2011, but Shaun Ellis is NOT an average to below average 3-4 DE. If you think that, then you don't know the responsibilities of a 3-4 DE.

Well as I told someone else just as you have your opinion of him as a player I have mine & I guess our opinions are on different ttracks going in different directions. All I am looking at is making this team a true contender & to be that we need a serious PR & that means besides the others who R LBers or DBF players that our front 3 contribute & that means besides SE Jenks & whomever plays the other side as well

I'll answer your question with a question: If you were the league's hands-down best corner, would you sign a contract that was completely contingent on anything but your performance?

We're not in different ballparks concerning what we want to see on the defense. I've talking railing for months about the fact that we need to build a killer 4 man rush to avoid having to send overload blitzes all day long, especially in obvious passing situations, because that cuts down on the secondary's ability to turn the ball over in the air.

But apparently Rex saw the opportunity to build a dominating secondary before he addressed the front 7, so we're going to have to wait until 2011 to find that pure pass rusher. It's why they brought Jason Taylor in, for better or worse.

Yes I understand the reason for the JT acquire. Hopefully he has something still in the tank & will give his all to us.

Can U imagine how good our DBF would be with a killer PR up in front of them. Actually I was hopeful SE would have retired & forced our hand to find young blood this season. Right now with the games he takes off for whatever reason he is really only a part time DE anyway

I think it's going to happen (killer pass rush), unfortunately not this year. The Jets have set themselves up to go heavy defense in FA and the draft in 2011 and I think the front 7 is going to get a lot of attention there.

NFL.com has the team record for most turnovers produced in a season set by San Diego at 66 in 1961. I think Rex has his eye on that record.

Got to go back to the NY sack exchange to when was the last time we had that killer PR. I do not understand RR thinking to put so much pressure on the DBF when he should be correcting the problem by get some PR experts.

IMHO 2011 is to late when supposedly U R setting urself up to be playing in Dallas in Feb 2011

Oh, I think Rex can get this team to Dallas in February of 2011 with the personnel we have. Sanchez is the wildcard in that scenario.

Rex was able to lead the league in a number of categories of defense without a true nose tackle for most of the season, with a Swiss cheese secondary outside of Revis, an underachieving and non-committal free safety, and no true edge rusher.

I think what Rex did on defense in 2009 is amazing. It was all coaching. Revis was our only elite player once Kris Jenkins popped his ACL.

Now the defense, while not the perfect picture you and I would like to see, is better than last season. I am going to assume that we'll only have Jenkins for a limited number of games in 2010, because it's not realistic to think that he will ever be truly healthy again. So in addition to DE, we need to find a NT in 2011.

Our rotation on the DL right now should be able to at least keep things steady, and with the solid level of talent in the secondary, we should be able to bring the house against offenses and not worry so much about having the more poised QBs we face pick us apart in the slot. That will cause turnovers, whether they are interceptions, fumbles or simply 3-and-outs.

Totally understand your point of view, and strangely as it seems, we could have exactly what we need right now with a dominating pass rush. Simply by (hopefully) shutting down both WRs , or even 3 if you include the slot, it instantly makes our PR a whole lot better, all it takes is a split second more for the pressure to cause mistakes.
Now we have a genuine #3 CB it will help out ageing players such as Ellis, who I think has done amazingly well since we've gone from 43 to 34. Funny thing, I was never his biggest fan in the 43, but the man just eats up blockers in the 34.
I'm still hopeful that when the rosters get cut down we can pull in a diamond in the rough, 'Rex Style' as I still think , like you that we are a few pieces short, but as I've said we may already have exactly what we need, time will tell.

not a chance thats the reason. You don't throw aside the best player at his position on the team (by leaps and bounds i might add) like ellis just because you are worried he might become buddies with a WR you just brought in. Hell chances are pretty damn good Holmes' best buddies will be the receiving core and Sanchez, not an aging DL with a family to go home to, like Ellis.

Where do fans come up with these dramatic soap opera bullshit scenarios?

This isn't the first time someone has brought up something like this.
