The last 2 plays were fly routes that the Giants knew were coming, of course they were bested with double coverage. The fact that this is your argument is laughable. I am talking about the entire game that preceded those passes.
Is there anyway a MOD can merge all the QB discussions into one thread? Some of us are interested in the other 21 main positions on the football field.
I'm not big on board clutter, but the traffic is dead enough that we should be able to get threads started on every single other position on the board without moving one to the second page. Merging 5 threads into one huge, unreadable monstrosity thread wouldn't accomplish much.
I don't think that the QB play of Brady versus Manning was the difference in the Super Bowl. It seems plain enough that the defense won the day for the NYGs. As for the NYJs, I don't think that the OL and the Defense have played well enough in the past 16 games for it to make a difference who the quarterback is and how well he plays. That seems plain enough as well.
I'm mainly just subtlely protesting my distaste for constant QB talk. We have a rough around the edges talented Young QB w/ alot to prove...and a crafty but unspectacular injury prone QB w/ nothing to prove but his further mediocrity. That's all there is to say. Let Training camp competition sort it all out. In the meantime, we have a new look front 7, an exciting crop of rookie's w/ a ton of upside and one of the most talented Olines in the Nfl on paper. These would all make for very good conversation.
The pressure on Brady was clearly one of the main reasons the Giants won that game. Do you believe the QB play in that game was insignificant? What would the Patriots have been able to do on offense that game with say, Chad Pennington instead of Tom Brady? What about the same question for the Giants? What about the significance of both teams QB's throughout the playoffs and season to get to the superbowl?
Only to someone who thinks inside a fish bowl. Why am I even bothering? I think the biggest irony about you is that you named yourself after 2 players whose position you diminish the importance of daily.
The difference in this Sb was Manning to Tyree on one of the greatest plays in Sb History. It was the Qb and his wonderlick scores or passer rating didn't have anything to do with him making that play happen! The Qb matters when it counts!
Whiteshoewillie, in my mind, there is no question that Tom Brady's body of work is head and shoulders above anything that most QBs in the NFL could aspire to -- and Chad Pennington doesn't even come close in his wildest dreams. Eli Manning, on the other hand, is a wierd and streaky kind of QB who has been riding a rollercoaster as his career. The fact that he would play well enough to beat Tom Brady would have been laughable in everybody's mind, except perhaps for his brother or father, or his team mates. If you take a look at why the Giants made it through the playoffs, you have to say that Eli's mistakes dwindled a lot, the running game was consistently powerful, and the defense was consistently devastating. The Giants were heavy road underdogs, over and over and they still won. This cannot be explained by just QB heroics. There is no question that the Pats' offensive array of weaponry overwhelmed the NFL this past year. But the Pats' mainly stayed disciplined and waited for the other team to make the mistake, which the Pats' took immediate advantage of -- just as they did against the NYJs at the beginning of that second game. When I take a look at our various arguments, it seems that the real difference is how much emphasis the arguer places on the QB versus the team. I tend to place more emphasis on the team, and some others tend to place more emphasis on the QB. I don't think it is a great idea to take the great consistent play of the rest of the football team for granted while we wait for the QB to become spectacular. I think of the QB as more of the icing on the cake rather than the foundation layers. Lately, I think it's obvious that the NYJs have made their QB play almost impossible. Neither of these guys had much of a chance, and neither of them did very much with the chances they were given either. Where Chad and Kellen lousy before the OL and the defense, or did the OL and the defense make them much lousier than they started off as...? Apparently, this QB competition is meant to answer that question, since most of the energy, and money and moxie has been invested by the CS and the FO in every other aspect of the team except the QBs (unless you believe that Ainge was the secret focus of the entire FO / CS strategy in this off-season).
I've never heard a coach, GM, owner or anyone else involved in football say that any other position except QB will lead the team, or lead the team to a Super Bowl. Thats why the planet places the emphasis on the QB. Because football itself does it for us. Ok Aristotle?
KC&C, that's a long azz post ... I think Bill Walsh, who I've seen you quote, would wholeheartedly disagree that QB is icing on the cake. He used to draft a QB every year to develop - that's how important he believed the position was. I also think that the majority of the current NFL coaches would disagree. Hypothetically speaking, lets say that every NFL player was thrown into an open draft for the teams to pick. Each team starts fresh with no players. Who do you think the top 3 picks would be and why?
The Jets QB problem bothers me more than ANYTHING! Yeah, I know a lot of you posters are tired of my act, so I am trying my best to avoid this board (unless I have something important to say). But when it comes to the Jets QB problem? And how THIS is the major failure of the Mangini regime? Let's face it, Jets fans. This team, going into the 2008 season, is a loser. Mostly because the head coach, Manweenie is a total loser. The Jets have signed some good players in the offseason, but it won't make up for our idiot coach and the other problems on the team. I just do not see how this Jets team is going to win any games because WE DO NOT HAVE A QB! And like I have said, I will quit the board and offer apologies all around if I am incorrect. If the Jets make the playoffs? I will quit. On the other hand, if I am correct? Will any of you do something? Well... No nevermind...
Gosh, I'd hate to see what you would have written if we didn't pick up any FA acquisitions, gave Coles a 5-year, $36 M cantract with $20 M guaranteed, and re-contracted Baker with a $6M signing bonus and and 5-year deal at $21M, let Gholston drop to the Patriots, kept DRob, kept McCraphands,................gee. The team is not at the level of the Pats (clearly, there is a seperation), but they are trying and I do think they have a plan. I like what they have done so far. While I do not think it is a shoe-in we make the playoffs; I think we have a solid chance at a wildcard, but we could come up a game or 2 short just the same. The fulcrum in this is the play of who ever our #1 QB is going to be, the play of the offensive line, the establishment of a running game, and being able to put a damper against the run on D. We'll see.
Let's convince Vinny not to retire just like the Panthers did last year and get him on the field. Bring stability back to the QB position!! At least he won't crumple like a Daewoo in a head on collision if our revamped o-line breaks down.
Pats fan, Troll, and think you have something "important" to say about the Jets. Yep, you just hit the trifecta, Congratz!
