the most appalling thing here is the lack of getting the authorities involved. as others have mentioned, your family comes before your pride. when you realize that is probably when you have a child.. so anyone saying i would do x while not having any children are speculating. shit changes quickly, and that includes your ego. now i'm not trying to insult anyone.. the brownsfan deserves a beatdown for sure... btu if it were your kid, the smart thing to do would be exactly what johnny-english mentioned. get your family out of the situation and return to normalcy. after that the police should've been involved. having your kid watch a beatdown, whether it be you beating hte shit out ofa brownsfan, or 5 brownsfan beating the shit out of you, not much good will come of it. after all. the kid was only 8. that's still pretty young.

Even if you want to avoid a fight, the least you could do is tell the cops

Most of you aren't sneaky enough...agreed with getting the 8 year old out of the situation but the end would happen differently had it been me. I would have discreetly followed the prick to his car, gotten a license plate then reported his ass.

I happen to agree most with the posters that this is blown out of proportion. In this day and age of camera video phones if it were really heinous someone would have video looking to make a buck. My guess is a drunkard stumbled into the child and the dad saw fit it was no big deal. It reads as if mom were home and, as mothers will do, blew it waaaayyy out of proportion.

While I can identify with the feelings of wanting to kick the crap out of some dipshit that put his hands on my kid, the situation was larger than that. He was with his wife and kid in a crowd of drunken and angry fans. The numbers here are the bigger issue. He wasn't a pussy for taking his wife and kid and getting the hell out of there, he was smart. What could have turned into a much more devastating situation was altogether avoided.

When I am on my own, I act differently in situations where I would be with my wife and kid. It is their safety that is of the utmost importance and if that means swallowing my pride and getting them the hell out of there, so be it.

When I was a kid I went to a jets fins game and Matt Robinson threw a touch down pass tobobby Johnson I think and that won the game for Jets. Of course some lady started yelling at me I was maybe in fourth grade and my dad went off on her and her drunk ass husband.
Security never showed up or did anything. When is the line drawn the father did the correct thing but should have found a cop and reported it. And violence to a child is wrong

If I were that dad I would have restrained the guy and then let my son kick him in the balls

The Dad should have kicked the living crap out of that guy. How could you let somebody do that to your child and do nothing? Fuck that cleveland fan and fuck all the other cleveland fans that just stood around and did nothing. Poor kid.

All the dads saying they would stand down are full of shit.

Things happen fast and you don't know what the guys' next move will be, you need to shut the guy down asap.

No way you wouldn't at least put the guy down real fast.

It does sound like the guy stumbled into the kid in which case not escalating the situation makes more sense. That is prolly what happened.

I'm sure the kid would grow up with a lot more respect for his dad after seeing him pummel another man. Then again, if he were to lose the fight...

I'd have thought that the kid is more likely to grow up thinking that the use of violence is acceptable in anything other than an unavoidable situation. Given it clearly was avoidable, it's hard to make a case for the father setting a bad example here.
