Yeah, tlight, Herm won't criticize vermeil--hey it is early-he specialized in throwing his so called buddies under the bus here. Before too long we will hear some veiled criticisms of the man he loves. Bank on it. Also bank on him running LJ into the ground. l lIt is never about the players on an Edwards team, it is about him, until the blame has to be set.

    Herm was a politician

Herm was a politician who was extremely skilled at passing the blame. As a football guy he was unbelievably conservative, lacked discipline and did not have an imaginative bone in his body. Any 10 year old with Madden could have managed the clock better than he did. Herm did not understand the term "adjustment". He was equally clueless as to the meaning of the phrase "game plan", but then again that is two words. For a while I bought into "it's Hacketss faullt", "it's Cottrells fault". Truth is it was Herm's fault. The offense was so conservative and predictable because that is what Herm wanted, it had little to do with Hackett. The way he handled injuries last year was pathetic. I am SOOOO glad he is gone. Does anyone actually miss this incompetent politician?

Nope, at least, I don't miss him. Obviously a lot of other people feel the same way. This dude needed to go, and our owner had enough common sense to see what was going on with this guy. I'm predicting a losing season for KC, and a slow progression into the pit of doom for their franchise. At least Herm went to an AFC squad, that way we know another team in our conference will be ruined.

Alright guys, it's time to move on from this Herm bashing thing. His methods may have been questionable at times and his press conferences and explanations for those decisions were usually downright confusing, but his results were undeniable. He brought the team a lot of success, then we went in a different direction. Done. Yet most people here insist on bringing up the topic again and again like for some reason whining about Herm is going to make Mangini a better coach.

Accusations like "Herm doesn't know how to develop young talent" are baseless and stupid when you consider that he developed Pennington, Coles, Abraham, Ellis, Coleman, McKenzie and Vilma were all developed under him. Then people say things like "Herm ran Curtis to death," forgetting that Parcells did the exact same thing and that Martin led us to the playoffs repeatedly.

Ripping the guy at this point is a sad relection on how little there is to talk about in the offseason. I really wish we could at least to it sensibly though. Talk about clock management or something.

Aw, c'mon.... it's FUN! his press conferences were freaking PRICELESS! The Vick is a chicken thing, blaming Brien for his screw up, the whole BUS analogy.... I'm glad he's still a HC.... just as long as it's somewhere else! And on a serious note.... even Edwards admitted he should have benched Curtis with that knee.... very few coaches would allow the heart of the team to risk the season like that. He gets ripped here.... but, he really does deserve it.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that we shouldn't criticize the guy for obvious mistakes that he made (and his hilarious babbling.) But we shouldn't revise history over things like development of young players to make those still with the Jets seem less responsible for the sorry state we're in today.

And who (currently with the organization) is responsible for the state we're in?

Bradway (but he has no say over FO moves anymore). And you could say Woody (because he assembled the brilliance that was Hermway).

In his defense though, for someone who's "not a football guy", he seems to have put us on the right track.

LJ is the best RB in the NFL, if you ask me, and could have 2000 yards without being in the top 5 in rushing attempts. I've always thought highly of Johnson, too. In fact, I thought Vermeil was crazy for not starting him as soon as Holmes got hurt.

they got to the playoffs by gravy-training guys tuna left. their drafts sucked before jessie kaye took over as chief scout. we all saw the results of 4 years of neglecting the o-line at the draft. we now have a couple of guys who replaced them that actually know what they're doing.

You know, it is hilarious, though, that he can talk to people like they're morons, and then say with a straight face that he didn't know the situation he was walking into. Herm Edwards is the smartest man alive according to Herm Edwards.

Hey man, screw that. For five years I sat back and gave this jerk the benefit of the doubt, ignoring the condescending manner of speech toward the average football fan in his interviews, ignoring the utterly senseless babble in every quote I read, excusing the LIES - that's right, complete LIES - about how he wanted to utilize personnel more, work on his mistakes, lessen the conservatism... I am now calling on my right as a fan to bash this coward who couldn't even tell the fans that he was leaving.

He left like a cockroach when the lights are flipped on. I hope he fails miserably. And think he will. And I'll enjoy it while the Jets build a contender.

Well said Abyzmul. I was a big Herm fan, and like you, I turned a deaf ear to his constant BS-spewing. 20/20 hindsight is a real awakener.

As for LJ, he is a dead man. He will be worked like a horse. When Herm first got there he had a sit down with Johnson. Johnson came out all excited, telling the media he was happy because Herm promised him he would be a big part of their plans, and he would be carrying the offense on his back.

Poor LJ didn't realize Herm was being LITERAL...

Amen and let's hope these guys know what they're doing. So far you have to love the way they are keeping the place bottled up. I have a feeling there won't be a lot of players showing up to camp this year out of shape.

:) Whine all you want about Herm's excuse making and nonsensical ramlbings but you can't deny the results that he brought for this franchise and the fact that most of the arguements against him are idiotic or just plain wrong. I think that if you had an arguement other than "I don't like this guy" you would have said it already.

After 2003 Herm led the charge to clear out most of Parcell's guys and he created a team that you probably blame him exclusively for not going to the Super Bowl with. Pennington, Abraham, Vilma, Coleman, Barrett, Barton, Moore, Kendall, Coles, Ellis--none of those guys are Parcells people. Herm brought them in and made them a contender.

I'd like to think that we brought in some competent replacements for Bradway and Herm as well, but I don't see anything in either of their resumes that suggests that they will do a better job. So far they have done pretty well, but we're basically in uncharted waters right now.

I have made an argument, and you ignored it and put words in my mouth. Good job, I'm impressed. The results I never questioned, otherwise I would have denounced them and given a reason. Idiotic? How about missing the AFCC for mistakes he should have corrected in year 2? Ignore the clock management and conservatism all you want, but they are the reasons that he's going to fail. He is too much of an egotist to work on his own problems. He thinks the team should work AROUND his problems, and that's crap.

Before you term someone else's arguments idiotic, why don't you make one yourself instead of quoting Herm's Media Fluffer Squad. (credit:DbJ)

Come on, what words did I put in your mouth? Your arguement was that Herm was a football idiot, rambled and lied in press conferences and then bolted from the team. And my arguement is that in spite of those negatives he was still the most successful coach of the Jets in recent memory. To argue that he is a failure when he has had more success than most coaches in the league is idiotic, no matter which way you spin it.

Those were all guys drafted by Parcells/Groh. Herm decided to let Pennington sit on the bench through 2 training camps, Herm decided to move Ellis to the inside.

If they go 4-12 Herm will convince the GM to trade the pick for garbage (i.e. Doug Jolley, 2 firsts for robertson)
