He had a bunch of interceptions in just a few games, and is said to have really helped out Milliner and the safeties. I don't think he was terrible at all.

He looked like he needed to get up to speed there a bit, but as you point out he made some plays.

Would rather have a 38 year old Ed Reed than a 24 year old Clyde Gates.. Bring him back.. I don't care if he plays 5 snaps all-season guy is a leader in a locker room that needs them.

Reed could add to this defense, but it looks now like the Jets are going total youth on defense aside from a few players. I think I'd rather have a 35yo Reed than a 31yo Dawan Landry, but I'm not going to lambaste the Jets for staying put, since Landry is more than likely playing the third safety position and has played with the current unit longer.

Reed has more left in the tank, that was obvious after last season.

I'd rather have Ed Reed with no legs on the roster, than Greg Salas at age 25 with 4.1 speed.

I'm trying to picture how clueless at life you have to be to think like this, but just can't quite get there.

Obviously the greatest safety in history is going to elevate the game of a 1st round rookie with a lot of the same attributes. From watching Pryor tape I'd say the biggest area for improvement for him is working on his ballhawking and obviously there's nobody alive to teach that better than Reed. It seemed like the light went on for Milliner almost overnight when Reed came in, coincidence or no I'd like to see him get the chance to improve from Reed's knowledge for another year too. Allen is another one that might benefit for years to come. And if Allen isn't good enough to beat out Reed yet at this point that means he might not beat out the hot garbage that is Landry, so I'd love to see Reed/Pryor if that's the case. If Allen is good enough to start then Reed is still third on the depth chart and could come in for 3 S packages or if someone gets hurt or in pure ballhawking situations. It's such a no-brainer, it would be pretty disappointing if Idzik goes another direction with the dearth of positive available alternatives.

My only problem with Reed is Rex's tendency to ride vets like Reed for better or worse. That's why I think Idzik will have no part of a 35yr old safety that his HC is in love with, especially after giving Rex another 1st round toy who can play the same position.

Reed. You're old. Either you become a coaching intern or you join Strahan. You're choice.

I would surrender a toe to see Strahan and Ed Reed on God Morning America together.

Yeah. As a coach. Roster spots are wasted on "mentors" who are past their prime. Reed is done as a player.

He looked fine to me last year. Nothing wrong with having vets in place to mentor the youth.

When we signed Reed , he looked as if he was getting better as the season went on. I am not against Reed playing in certain packages. He is still in good shape and to see him playinf FS next to Pryor since both Pryor and Allen are SS . I think it is worth a try. We need a Vet in our secondary. They are all 1st 2nd and 3rd yr players that can use a mentor. that is why I don't understand why Idzik didn't sign a Vet DB?

Reed obviously lost a step last year and took some bad angles on plays that were costly ( the one that stands out to me was a Buffalo play where he ran into a db). I'm fine with having vets around but Landry and Allen have been around for a while so they can give a vet perspective. If were gonna use a spot on a safety, I'd rather take a flier on Will Hill and if were gonna use one on an older vet id prefer Travelle Wharton to play guard

What can Allen teach a Pryor though? Landry was a solid safety at best in his prime. Reed is a hall of famer and it wasn't like Reed was any worse than Landry last year.

I didn't think he was terrible. The coverage skills are not there anymore. But he will alwsys be a player whose in the right place at the right time. I wouldn't mind a return as a nickel package guy.

He's not terrible but I don't think he's that good either, and I'd rather not use a roster spot on him again. Reed is at the point in his career that each season will likely be worse than the previous given his age vs taking time away from Antonio Allen who I think is underrated.

This graybeard has no business being on the field anymore, imo. I think he would make a great secondary coach, but his playing days are behind him. He can't run anymore. Plus we're 3 deep at safety with Pryor, Allen, and Landry, not to mention Jarrett who's a decent backup. I'm probably forgetting somebody too.

Would welcome back with open arms.....

I think he has something left in the tank....played well toward the end of the season, created some turnovers for us.....

Helluva mentor for our very young secondary. It's a possibility that Pryor will be making all of the defensive calls as a rookie. He could use a guy like Reed who played that role in Rex's D at the highest level to mentor him and show him how to lead the secondary....

We could also use another quality vet presence in the locker room to surround our very young team....coaches coach. We need older players to show our young studs what it takes to prepare like professionals...
