Kid is a pretty good punt returner also, and the Jets could use a punt returner.. Here's a video of one

He was considered on of the top CB's in the country, and a sure 1st round pick. Then came the combine. He ran a 4:62 40. OUCH. That's why he fell to the 4th.

he sure seems to have a lot better on field speed then that

Speed without awareness means nothinig. Thats was what Justin Miller has shown so far for the most part. There were good reports last year comming out of camp about improved play but getting hurt early did not help him show enough in game action.

If he gets his head into the game more and quits taking dumb penalties he could be very good, but if he has not matured as a player or person he will not be long for this team.

I'm hoping he continues to show the play from early last year and not his previous self on the feild. Having Lowery around over his shoulder with Leon doing an amazing job on kick returns this is going to be a make or break season for him as a Jet.

So true. I can't believe he was slated for the 1st and fell to the 4th just over that combine. Surely other teams must have done their homework and taken some of the other factors into consideration.

Well, it looks like Tangini saw the value and couldn't resist him in the 4th Round. I guess that's where "Steals" come from. The kid looks like a great pick and you can never have enough good corners nowadays. Great value, I think.

I was a HUGE Lowery fan and there were only a few people on this board that knew about this special player. The Lowery pick reminds me of the Rhode's pick........an unknown to most, but a very good player. Lowery may convert to Safety(played some at a Juco) and be a starter in the near future.

Well, Hank Poteat isn't getting any younger and will be prone to injury, so this kid is coming along at the right time to insure a steadily developing talent stream moving forward. Great pick and terrific signing. Kudos to Tangini.

    Ty Law who?

I hope so as well. You have to be a talented athlete to make the NCAA D1 but you have to work hard and be smart to take things to the next level. I hope this kid is a player we end up talking about as a later round gem in the next year or two. His production at San Jose St. was not an accident. Lets hope he is able to transition it to the NFL in some role.

Not a tremendously big guy (5'11" - 201) but he looks lean and mean and pretty solid. If he didn't have the speed at the combine, there could have been a reason for it that (nervous, not feeling well, or just a bad day).

This is where good scouting comes in (Terry?... Did you have a hand in this?). At any rate, it looks like somebody on the Jets studied enough film ahead of time and knew this kid is no gymnasium workout warrior... that he has natural football skills. They figured this kid would drop because of the combine speed and, at the beginning of the 4th Round finally said, "Okay, enough is enough. Grab this kid here, he's a good value here."

Miller was always famous for getting benched during a game, for a bone head play/penalty. Let's hope he's had the time to mature, and realize his potential.
wonder if he's going to return kicks, again? going to be tough to take that job from LW.

That's exactly who, IMO, Lowery is going to be. I just don't think he is going to be an every down CB, but he is going to be the guy in critical 3rd and 8 type situations, when a team is driving for a win, and a strong armed QB throws into coverage, Bingo, Lowery picks it off, game over.

After a few of them, all the fans will be screaming for Lowery to start, He is best as the big play ball hawk.

Very True. Its cuz we are WAC-heads...Ive heard nothing but great things about Lowery from his teammates and coaches. Watching him play for two years was a treat. Every game nearly, he was either returning a kick or INT back for 6 and was making plays all over the field...this team can't get enough ball hawks.

I think we will see him paying dividends much sooner then many anticipate.
