I'd honestly have a hard time choosing between Jarrett and Blalock if Jarrett's there. I love Blalock, but Jarrett would compliment our pass game perfectly. Honestly, if I'm Tangini, I look at who's gonna be available at guard in the 2nd and 3rd rounds and see if they'd be enough of an upgrade to warrant the pick. If so, you take Jarrett there. If no, go Blalock and grab a WR in a later round like Mike Walker, or even Sydney Rice if he somehow manages to fall to us in the second.
I'd love to add Rice in the second, but there isn't a guarentee that he's going to be there at 59. To me, picking Jarrett at 25 is a no-brainer. He just adds a dimension to the offense that won't be made up by Blalock or a later round receiver. Jarrett is a legit blue-chipper that is only sliding because of .1 seconds in a 40 yard dash. Noone wants to pick a workout warrior, but when someone with all the credentials in the world comes along and has a lousy workout, he gets tossed aside to the garbage bin.
Bingo. You nailed it Hydro. If Jarrett's there of course he needs to be the pick. Then again, there's no way that the Patriots would pass on him if he fell to #24. And if he does go to NE there, say hello to the source of serious frustration for the next decade.
But would the Patriots take another WR, considering how much they have spent on the position already this offseason?
It's the Patriots, they're fairly loaded everywhere. Unless they really want whoever the top CB available is left, or Michael Griffin is there, I can't imagine them passing on a value like that. They have so many picks and are so good at infusing young players into key roles that it seems like a perfect fit.
We better not take a wr anywhere near the 1st round WR is barely a need. I would be fine going into to season with the guys we have. If we pick a guy 2nd day thats fine with me
to know this youd have to had watched some usc games....huh? I feel you are speakin from knowledge.....Jarrett has more fight in him than Mike Williams.
Um, no way Moss is traded for less than a 1st if he's dealt at all. You're crazy if you think we can get him for a 3rd even if they were openly dealing him. Marshall is D1a. In fact, I can name 4 starting QBs off the top of my head from that conference in Charlie Frye, Byron Leftwich, Ben Roethlisberger, and Chad. A lot of QBs aren't from major conferences. McNair, Kitna, Losman, Romo, Alex Smith, Delhomme, Tarvaris Jackson, Carr, and Garrard are some more to name a few.
I'm not one to buy into the 'Mangini Guy' talk, but if you think they are going to shell out a 1st rounder (which has to be what the going price is, forget the 3rd round talk) for a guy that has: a) Admittedly quit on previous teamS b) Admitted in a television interview to the use of controlled and illegal substances c) Has had issues off the field ... then I don't know what you are thinking. The guy is an obvious gamebreaker, but he is also a proven chemistry-killer on the field. We don't need a receiver that runs over and yells in the QB's face when he thinks he is open and doesn't get the ball thrown to him. The only people doing that should be the OC and QB coach. I pass on Moss for the team Mangini wants to build.
This is the same Pats that have spent time loading up at the TE and LB corps in the past. They don't care how many players they have at a position they deem important to their plans. I wouldn't be surprised if they selected 2 wideouts in the draft this year.
I'm sorry - but can we please dispel this notion that Chad spent last season scrambling for his life! In a completely pass dominated offense I feel the line held up tremendously well. If you want to argue that we need help on the oline through the draft please do so with realization that our run-blocking needs to improve. With that being said a player of Jarrett's caliber at 25 is a steal. How many WR in the draft are legit.(abbv. for spelling : ) over 6' with the leaping ability and hands of this kid? Answer is none(outside of CJ). If the FO feels it can get value OL and pass rush in later rounds then this is a no-brainer.
No, I think it will be a 3rd rounder that gets Moss. Of course that depends on what Oakland does with their #1. Look for Moss to go to GB for a #3. Then sign a new contract with no big upfront money too. I know all his problems. I also know his friendship with Pennington. I just don't think he would bring that to NY if he came at all. Of course it won't happen but knowing it could just makes me hope we don't waste a 1st on a receiver.
I would take 5 Jarrett's over Kotite. Generally, Kotite's name is nearly unmentionable on this board.
need to take Jarrett If he is there we should without a doubt take him. I am a big USC fan (and have been for years--even the bad ones) and this kid runs great routes, has great hands and is 6'5. He has good football speed and what is good football speed you ask. Watch the 2007 Rose Bowl, he out runs the great Leon Hall on a 60 yard touchdown catch. Keyshawn wasn't that fast either and we took him number one overall. If you're thinking of Olsen at TE why not take DJ, he is proven and gives Chad the same big target. Chris Baker can do the blocking. Just my two cents....GO GREEN...
jarrett seems like he would have trouble getting open in the NFL, wouldn't doubt if he ends up like Mike Williams
coles could go deep. and jarrett can get deep.. just because he runs a 4.6 doesn't mean u cant get deep because TJ housh, Owens, fitz, ect.. are all far from 4.3 sd.. but are big and strong enough to play the ball in the air. besides who is gonna throw to this burner if we draft one?
This is exactly the kind of Receiver Chad needs. Somebody big and strong to run 10-15 yard routes with good hands. A speed guy is a waste with Chad and Randy Moss is to risky on a young team. Olsen had one good year and now he is a star. He is another overrated Miami player. If they took Jarret I would not be mad but with that said we still need a DT,Qb and pass rushing Lb more. O-guards can be found in the third round and beyond.
