No one knows what he will be asking for. He hasnt been complaining about his contract, so he doesn't come off as some money hungry sob. And to your point about not producing that much, he was better this year than our #1 WR whos making how much again?
So he was better then shit. No one is saying get rid of Keller they are saying he is not worth the contract he will most likely want and get somewhere else. Look at how much the Bills overpaid Brad Smith. Look how much we paid Santonio. The point is to not pay more then what you are getting in production.
I'm not arguing the point that it's stupid to over pay for players. I'm simply saying I don't see him demanding a huge contract.
Not huge but I could see him going for around a 5 or 6 million a year contract. Id rather see him get 3.5mill a year with maybe some incentives. I see Keller testing free agency before just looking to sign here.
Haven't you heard? I was screaming from the bottom of my lungs as of last year "SANTONIO HOLMES IS NOT YOUR #1 RECEIVER! DO NOT RELEASE BRAYLON!" Where were you whenever I was taking shots at that moron? And I am all for cutting that bastard SOB and eat the $12M cap hit.
Yes. It is clear that Braylon is a superior player. He was so good in San Fran this year. Face it---they are both stiffs.
thats not the point. The point was you were trying to place the blame for the season at keller's feet. I dispelled the claim. The tone conversation is a whole nother issue all together. And seriously the Braylon love is getting out of hand. The guy had 22 receptions this year, got cut, is coming off major knee surgery and we unceremoniously kicked his ass out of town last year in favor of a 36 year old replacement who spent 2 years in jail. I seriously doubt the Jets want him back, and even if they come begging, I can't see braylon swallowing his pride to come back. I would welcome him back with open arms, but I seriously doubt his return is imminent. I suggest we start looking at other deep threats very soon.
Did I miss an article that explained exactly what surgical procedure Braylon underwent? This is the first I have heard that the surgery was major.
as I heard it, he underwent knee surgery to fix the knee injury he suffered early this year, which lead to him being cut. I dont know which procedure he had, but id bet it was more than a simple scoping.
Well, I don't have a major amount of 'love' for the guy, although I missed his vertical ability... but if he can pass a physical, I don't see why the Jets couldn't get the guy at a bargain basement price. I'd take a hobbled Braylon Edwards over a healthy ex-convict with an attitude problem. It would also give the Jets the freedom to draft a couple of SE/flanker types to groom in the early/mid rounds of the draft, instead of having to go receiver in the first round.
I think the Jets FO/CS has probably recognized a lot of mistakes they made last season. It was pretty obvious they missed Braylon on offense, so I don't think it's unreasonable to think that maybe they've identified letting him walk as a mistake. As to "major knee surgery", please provide some evidence of that. You can't get many receptions when you're injured, so I'm not too concerned with his lack of receptions so long as he gets a clean bill of health.
Id welcome him back with open arms, no doubt. But I just dont see the sides agreeing to come back together.
It's one thing to accept in one's own mind that you made a mistake. It's another to take some action that amounts to a public admission of a mistake. I agree with you that Tanny and the others SHOULD appreciate they made a mistake, but whether they will in effect make a public admission of it by trying to get him back is another thing. But that's about Edwards, although I do think what might happen with Edwards has some relevance to the situation with Keller, since one, and yes only one, of the factors in deciding whether to keep him or not in the face of his poor blocking, average contribution and expiring contract, is continuity. In other words, perhaps if Edwards comes back, as a receiver familiar with and to Sanchez, maybe the Jets don't need to be so concerned about keeping continuity with Edwards.
Perhaps letting Bray walk when he was demanding Tone money was not a mistake, especially if we get him back one year later for less than 1/10th his original asking price.
The really frustrating thing is that the Jets are built all wrong. It's like a kid got to play with the franchise using Madden rules and this is what they look like after a decade of that.
I really wanted Braylon to stay, but clearly not for the money he was asking. He should have gotten more than he did from SF, which was where I wanted us to pay for him.
I think part of him being cut was also they didn't want to pay whatever incentives he had if he were on the roster for the playoffs.
Same here, it wasn't an on the field thing either. If Braylon could screw his head on straight he'd have gotten paid. Holmes is an asshole cancer, but at least he's not getting into fights at nightclubs. I hope we get Braylon back on the cheap, I loved what the guy did on the field.
