You mean like how you think signing big name free agents to huge contracts when you basically only have half of a team is a good idea? We tried to teach you something about that already, but it doesn't seem to be sinking in. This team needs help in so many places, why would you want to throw so much money into 1 or 2 players? That's for next season and the year after, after the roster looks a bit more settled and the cap is really in order. You're under the impresion that 1 guy, if he's really really good, is going to completely change the face of the team, and bring the rebuilding along in a quantum leap. Doesn't work like that. What younger players with upside do you see on the market, who can be had at a reasonable price? We are not in a position to break the bank, that's what you're not getting. It's easy to say, "sign all the young guys", but those younger players want big contracts that we cannot afford. That is, if we really want to stay out of cap hell. So get used to what you've seen over the past week, because that's going to be the approach this year.

I think proclaiming the new coach, the next great coach is overreaching given his limited exprience. We have holes to fill. While FA is important, I am more concerned with how this team does in the Draft. That is going to be the real test for the new leadership.
I have just completed reading all 4 miserable pages. I have concluded that hotcoles87123 is a moron. Why? First, he goes on a bender about how Chatham is a bad pick up. Second, he basically trashes a majority of posters on this board by saying we are brainwashed and do not know much about football. Third, he says that there is nobody here who can teach him a darn thing and he will never change one of his opinions. On Chatham: He is not a block buster signing, but clearly there is evidence of intelligent thinking in the signing. We have cut some players who would leave an obvious exposure on special teams. Chatham is an excellent signing. He will be used almost exclusively on special teams, but in the mold of how BB thinks, Chatham is an interchangeable part. He provides depth at the linebacker position and has an opportunity to improve and work his way into the starting line-up or be used in specialty situations. We acquired this person based on the experience Mangini has had in dealing with this person and obviously Mangini must feel that there is an upside. Just because we didn't trade away our second round pick for Chatham doesn't make him a bad signing. It was an intelligent signing that will not break the bank if for some reason it does not pan out as planned. But, I bet it does. Why? His acquisition was not the result of panic buying - ala Edwards. On being brainwashed: Please get over yourself. I do not know if anyone on this board qualifies in that category. There are varied opinions. Most people right now are just sitting back and watching what goes on before making a judgement. It is WAY too early to start nit picking. At the end of the upcoming season there will be table fare to talk about and there will be substantive things to relate to. On learning anything from the board: Let me say this. There are some extra-audinarily knowledgeable people on this board. I learn more from this board in a shorter period of time than if I read the papers. Is it always a thing of beauty; NO, but it is pretty darned good. In summary, I have concluded that this is how you got the name hotcoles87123: An obvious accident to your nads from gaseous ignition. To get back to the football topic... Another point is that the Jets cut Brown, who had a high value at ST for the Jets. Therefore the Jets need a replacement, and why not take a player who is familiar with Mangini, and obviously is a good ST player? Maybe I couldn't make anyone change his mind, but I will leave it with that

Well put. Also for someone who has expansive football knowledge, he mistakingly said that the Jets cut Mark Brown. The best part is that he called any jet fans that said anything positive about Chatham clueless, claiming we've never seen him play. At the same time the reason he knows this because patriot fan friends told him. What a shocker, hotcoles never saw Chatham play either.
I have to say I agreed with a bit of the OP's post as well. But after reading through the thread his orginal post has lost all its meaning due to his attacks on other posters. I could care less whether he is right or wrong. But attacking other people here offends all of us. There are lots of opinated people here, myself included, but Jay Wayne is right we can all learn from each other. But even if we think we cannot whats the point of bashing and attacking other people? Lets just assume that Hotcoles is correct and his opinion is always right and everyone else is wrong. Some kind of second coming or maybe even a first coming to this Jets board. Or even some kind of ghost of Jets187 or Jetman24. Whats the point in him bashing everyone and earning everyone's dislike. The personal attacks obscures whatever point he is trying to make. If he doesn't care what people think of him and he knows he is always right whats the point in posting here? Does he need disiples? Are we supposed to go spread his Jet word to others? Or is he just posting here so we can see the truth. I don't mean to make fun of Hotcoles but the logic is lost on me. But what isn't lost to me is the personal attacks and the attitude. There are a lot of nice people and good posters here. There is no excuse to attack others and treat people rudely. While I respect Hotcoles opinion and the thought that goes into making a post I find his attacks on other people personally offensive and unwarranted.
