You were right about Stanton? Is this January? Did the playoffs happen already? Did the Cardinals lose in the divisional round to the Eagles or Saints? Was it the Saints? Tell me, it was the Saints, right? Those sons of bitches and their 7-9 record. Also, the thread starter, who seems to be the biggest Stanton fan here did not bump the thread last week after Stanton helped the Cardinals beat the Lions.
Im convinced the thread starter was trying to troll. I think you're the only one here that thinks Stanton is more than a serviceable backup.
I think he is a serviceable backup. The Cardinals are in good position to get the 1 or 2 seed. The playoff games are going to be about the defense and the quarterback not turning the ball over. Late in the 1990 season there were people making comments about Jim Hostetler like you are making about Stanton. My preseason Super Bowl pick (noted on another forum; not sure about this one) was GB over NE. I am sticking with it. If not GB, then Arizona. They have Campbell and Williams playing at all-pro levels on the line. Foote is playing at an all-pro level at linebacker. All the DBs play well. Mathieu is getting better every week. Peterson struggled earlier but is back to old form now. Johnson, Bethel, Powers, Bucannon, Cromartie- all good in their roles.
The jury is still out on Stanton. He doesn't have enough starts or body of work to say he can be an efficient starter in the NFL. Arizona is stuck with him because Palmer is out for the year. But Arians is a good coach and he likes Stanton who was with him when he was with the Colts. But Arians really never wanted Stanton to be his starter.
You dont have to sell me on the Cards as a team. You dont get to 9-2 without being a very good all around team. But the fact is the weakest area on the team right now is the most important position on the team. Could they come out of the NFC? Yeah they could. Unexpected things happen in the playoffs all the time. Maybe things break their way. But the same thing could be said about every other playoff team. But when it comes down to it, give me the decent team with the great QB over the good team with the average QB.
We all knew there was a dropoff from Palmer to Stanton. I didn't think it would be this HUGE, though. This is like when the Jets went from Joe Namath to Bob Davis or J.J. Jones. As a Cardinals supporter, I was hoping for an Aikman to Garrett type deal where the backup would play representative football. Stanton was so utterly inept today that Arians has to at least consider starting Logan Thomas next week as raw as he is.
