Vernon Gholston would disagree. And besides... aren't schematics in place to supposedly get the best out of the players on the roster? Isn't that what separates a good HC from a bad one... getting the best out of their players?
Your always going to have people with something negative to say, just because he was in a great position to make a play doesn't mean he will... see Calvin Pace and a few of our WRs last night. You are 100% correct, Ryan is getting the best of out DC and it's better then anything we ever expected.
i have to apologize to a poster here who said drew coleman was a good player(forgot your user name sorry) but i also have to say...drew coleman is a good football player, and great at getting blitz pressure on the qb, and hell guy got a sack. btw will the poster 'DREW COLEMANS DAD' please show himself. i love that user name.
lol @ saying it's just the scheme. i guess speed, making it through the hole clean, and the ability to make the tackle doesn't factor in. How many QB's escape near sacks? drew is fast, and was able to get there before favre could do anything. gotta love the new and improved drew coleman
He also had another blitz on the next drive that nearly sacked Favre again but Burt got it out half a second early.
Any word on Coleman's injury? I would hate to see him miss significant time the way he's been playing . . .
Kyle Wilson came in on Brady totally unblocked and ended up looking foolish as Brady ducked under him. The perfect play call only works if the players do their jobs.
Everyone who thought we would ever be concerned about potentially losing Drew Coleman stand up. Yeah didn't think so. It's crazy how much better he is playing this year.
Yeah, look at E. Smith. He was in the perfect position to make a play and whiffed. That whiff allowed Gramps to complete 3rd and 15 pass. Eventually leading to a TD for the Vikes. Kudos to Coleman for growing into a very important second tier player...
You have to hand it to the coaching staff. They saw all this in the preseason when they guaranteed his salary. Now watch him have a great season and then get an extension and slack.
Disagreed. If people are going to roast RR for blitzing on 3rd and long and getting beat then they should give him credit when the overload works. Drew Coleman coming in untouched and wrapping up a 41 year old fossil is the least impressive thing that happened on that play.
i never thought i'd ever be worried that he wasnt in a game. i'd really like to have little drew playing against the broncos.
That's good news if true, especially with Revis probably missing the Denver game. Right now I rank our CBs like so (in full health): Cromartie, Revis, Coleman, Wilson, Lowery
I have an interesting theory. The game sort of turned when Coleman was taken off the field. IIRC, Coleman was removed from the field after a play on special teams when the score was 12-0. After that play, Minnesota began connecting on a lot of medium-distance passes, especially on third down. Scrub receivers like Greg Lewis were taking part in the offense when they had no business doing so in the first half. Here's what I think: Coleman is obviously not the best cornerback on the Jets. However, with the way he's been playing in coverage these last three weeks, I think he's a sort of keystone to the overall play of the secondary because of his reliability when covering receivers that are lower on the depth chart. Cromartie did a wonderful job on Moss last night, and Revis had a few goofs but IMHO did a passable job on his assignments. That being said, if you think back to the Buffalo game, Coleman was covering Roscoe Parrish for a significant portion of the game and he was barely thrown at. In the beginning of the Minnesota game, Coleman had a select few downs where he covered Harvin, and he did so pretty well. So in conclusion, though Favre really stepped up and made some perfect throws under a lot of pressure, I think a contributing factor to Minnesota's second-half rally in the passing game (especially on third and long) was due to the fact that Coleman was not in the game. IIRC, three key completions went to guys covered by Lowery or Wilson-- receivers who would normally be taken by Coleman if he were playing. I saw Coleman re-enter the game on the last series, and Lowery ended up with an interception because he was assigned to Visanthe Shiancoe, who's not as fast or shifty. What do you guys think?
Things I've noted on how DC is used. His primary role is cover short zone and 3rd flats, which means covering WR/TE/HB hooks and screens etc... and secondly blitzing or (most important) SHOWING blitz , alot of plays that hes lined up to show blitz, usually from will we have had a fair amount of incompletions, whether thats down to DC...I don't know, but IMO alot of it is. The Pats Faulk will tell you how tenacious a tackler DC has now become . On the Bills game, he seemed to have a rover role, though I can't be certain, but he covered multiple players, usually as double teams. For a player that we all thought was garbage and should be cut in TC, I am so glad the CS stuck with him. Excellent utility player. Question: I wonder what his trade value is now?
There's no doubt Coleman has improved, I can't deny that. He was such a liability in year's past that it's hard to not acknowledge his progress.
