Carson Palmer lost his only competition for the starting job at USC the guy he lost it to played himself out of the job. Per Peter King so take it with a grain of salt. Rex Ryan apparently loved this guy. I'm drinking the cool aid on this one until proven otherwise.
I know and I admit I was pretty shocked we actually did it and when I saw what we gave up I was very happy. I don't think we gave up that much and the biggest concern if he doesn't pan out is the cap hit since he will get a huge contract. I think Ryan now has a chance to really build something with his guy. I hope that Ryan isn't to much of a players coach and we have a cornerstone QB and coach to build a SB team. So far I really like Ryan and I like this move. We shall see but getting both the coach and the QB is a great way to go into season 1.
i give it an A- due to the fact that I think Sanchez is a true leader and does really want to play here... he will bleed green with all of us... that why its above a B for me, his desire to play here. Greene is a nice addition, but the lack of depth is why its not an A+. Next year, the Jets better stockpile picks - 2010 has tons of talent and it needs to be taken advantage of. I'd like 8 picks next year.
For once we agree. As you know I wasn't hot on the idea of doing this, but once again (as with Favre) Tannenbaum gave up much less than I thought we would have to. After seeing Sanchez on SNY last week I told myself I'd be ok with it if we got him and we didn't give up anyone major or any future picks. I was also shocked, I didn't think we'd go up that high, I'd heard 8 but not 5. Like you, I think a new coach and new high-choice QB gives us reason to be optimistic. They do this for a living and were obviously sold on the guy, and Ryan and Tannenbaum come from different backgrounds. I'd be less sold if it was another Tannenbaum/Mangini thinking in unison deal.
