The only wild card here is the Giants. The Browns will take a QB, the Bills will try to get to #3 and take Allen, the Broncos will take Darnold or Rosen, whoever the Browns don't take. I think we have a pretty good shot at Mayfield at 6, if we know the Giants aren't taking a QB for sure. I'm cool with taking Barkley too, tho.

I would be furious if the Jets burned one of our second rounders to move up 1-2 spots for a QB. Stay at 6. We need our picks for more impact players. Take someone at 6 that will help THIS YEAR! Nelson, Barkley, Chubb, Ward, whoever.

Chances are that the Jets will have a better record this season and will be drafting lower. In addition, they won't have an extra 2nd round pick, so the chances of their trading up next year are slim and none. Saying "wait until next year" just isn't realistic even if next year's QB class winds up being better, which I don't think it will. QB is the most important position on the team and should take priority over adding starters at other positions.

If Mayfield falls to 6 is it a no brainer to take him? I admittedly am not an NFL talent evaluator and there are people on this board who are way more qualified to decide that, but if it were up to me, I stay put at 6, and if Mayfield is there you can take him.

RobA is now the voice of logic.

This forum has seriously dropped to a new low.

If either Rosen or Allen fall to us, I would be pleased....

Rosen (forget all nonsense about attitude) most polished-ready QB in draft, smart, reads the field well, puts the
ball into tight windows and leads the receiver for YAC...

Allen (scary pick), but I am willing to take the risk, see a lot of Big Ben/Wentz in him, let shoot for the moon
and get a QB who could be Top 5 in league and lead us to the promised land for the next decade!!

If Barkley is at 6, you take him. Simple as that. I don't care who else is on the board. I don't care that we just signed Crowell. They can cut Powell.

If Barkley is gone as well as Darnold, Rosen and Baker. I would take Quenton Nelson, very good OL and a position of need.

If somehow those three QB's, Barkley and Nelson are gone (shit luck really) then I would either take Chubb or trade back if the offer is good.

I do not want Josh Allen.

We really can't mess this up unless we draft someone like Ward or Edmunds at 6.

I would only be in favor of a trade back of it nets up an additional first next year as well as a second in 2018.

The I see it, if we somehow land Darnold or Rosen, I would be ecstatic. If Mayfield is available at #6, I'd be content selecting him. If those 3 are gone, I take the best available non-QB or trade back.

That being said, I think Darnold is locked in at #1. I'm concerned NYG will select a QB or trade out with Buffalo, and Denver is a lock for QB #3.

Just because this draft has 4-6 first round QBs does not mean that all or any of them go in the top 10. Most teams now have insurance against missing out at QB and could look to fill other needs at the top of round one.

If Macc doesn't get his QB this draft, I doubt he'll have a chance to get him next year even if he isn't fired. Next year's QB class will be hyped lke every year, but there's no one that has really been talked about as "can't miss", and certainly not multiple "can't miss" guys, so banking on the Jets being able to land that one guy next year when they'll likely be drafting down lower in the order is unrealistic.

I think he'll try to trade up, but won't go "all in" to get there, and will likely be outbid by Buffalo or the Broncos, and he better hope Rosen or Mayfield slip to 6. If winds up taking a DB with his first pick again, that will be the instant I'm done with them until he's gone and/or the Johnsons sell the team.

Hue Jackson just said Tyrod is their starting QB and there is no competition.

This smokescreen was not very effective.

Exactly. I can't do it anymore. I am living in the here and now. I can't be worried about something that won't happen for over a month from now and I have ZERO control over.

Do the Browns actually have any other QBs on the roster at this moment? Of course he's the starter and has no competition....today. Check back with Hue after the draft however.

There is logic in keeping your picks especially premium ones like 2nd rounders, but teams have been VERY successful when moving up for QBs. It isn't like this method doesn't work. It can backfire as well, but it can also work out.

If the Jets fail in grabbing or 1 of the 4 QBs, and go into the season with the 2 trash bags the signed, Mac needs to get fired

Hey Penny, can you name all of the successes of teams trading up to the top of the draft for a QB in the past 20 years?

    I'm struggling to find them.

I assume you mean if the top 3 QBs are indeed gone. If not, there's no way you take Barkley. You take the one of those 3 top QBs that's there.

You also take Chubb over either Barkley or Nelson because OLB is a much more important position than OG or RB, and the difference between Chubb and the 2nd round prospects at edge rusher are much greater than the difference between Barkley and Michel, Guice and Penny and the difference between Nelson, Wynn and Hernandez.

Am I wrong in thinking that the strategy for the Jets first pick is really not all that complicated?. They are going in with the starting position that they will stay at six, barring a beneficial trade partner that will not rape us to move up and our QB choice is still there. Unlikely scenario.
Jets know damned well there are 4 QB max, like it or not, that are meritorious of using the six pick (Darnold, Mayfield, Rosen and Allen) Some will argue against Allen but no way will Mac or anyone else in need of a QB not take the chance for someone with such potential. He will be rightfully crucified but hell, chances are Allen goes before six anyhow, in which case most Jet fans will glorify the team and GM that picked him.

So 4 QBs and 5 slots ahead of us. We need two of the five to go in a different direction. But if they don't, then you are facing the opportunity to have either a stud RB, OL, or super pass rusher....
Good Lord, how bad is that? Not too bad to a team that in addition to the QB it also desperately needs each and all of those positions. I know it hurts to miss the chance at the QB, but the consolation price could be pretty awesome.
If we trade down then you are risking to select less talent or miss all together, a scenario Mac can ill afford.

On the other hand say that when on the clock for the 4th pick only one QB remains, either Mayfield or Rosen. What would you do? Would the Jets try to trade with Cleveland? Well that would freaking cost an arm and a leg because Barkley is sitting there all dressed up ready to go Brown. So the Jets and every one of us will pray that Denver or whomever is at 5 goes in another direction.....a very unlikely scenario.

Here is to hoping and praying that at least two teams are absolutely infatuated with Barkley, Nelson, and Chubb....or be ready to accept one of those 3 as our 6th pick.
