BPA at 17. Sanchez will most likely be gone if Denver selects him at 12. We really need to land one of the following players at 17 IMO...Moreno, Harvin, Nicks, Maclin. Remember what DaSean Jackson did for Philly last year when they drafted him. Yes he hit the rookie wall late in the season but he added an explosive element to that team that was previously lacking. I look at our situation similarly. We have Leon (our version of Westbrook). He will be the man with the target on his back this coming year. Let's draft another playmaker to take some of the pressure off Leon and open the offense up with decoys, etc. Furthermore, all of the players I mentioned are bigger and stronger than Jackson and should be more NFL ready. Then in the 2nd round, we can go defense.
If we go 4-12 this year, then Colt McCoy will be the starting QB of the Jets in 2010. One can wish, right?
You do know that for the past 2 days IgnatiusJReilly have had it out regarding Cutler... with totally opposing points of view. When you act like a child you get treated like a child.
I'm not a big fan of McCoy, I'd rather have Sanchez or Stafford over any of the Qbs next year, at least the ones I know about right now(Bradford, McCoy, Tebow)
If we need a Qb under any circumstance next year we need to do whatever is necessary to make the best one available in the draft a Jet.
Not on this kind of thing. First of all we have to live through yet another 4-12 season, which is something no NFL fan should ever have to go through once, let alone as often as we have. Secondly, if Colt McCoy is the answer he'll be gone by our pick because we beat the Bills in a meaningless end of season game putting him just out of our reach at the 5 pick in the draft. Thirdly, if we get Colt McCoy he'll have a great first season and then something, I don't know what, but something will happen to make that great first season just not matter moving forward. The Jets need to start acting like a successful team, not a year to year circus. Trades are stupid wastes of time if they absorb a lot of FO and scouting time to consummate that would better be spent on the draft. Trades to move up in the draft are the hallmark of idiocy and mark us as a franchise without a clue, particularly given that we don't trade up to get the most important position - we trade up to get bowling balls with knives and CB's and WR's. There's a reason the Jets haven't won a Super Bowl in 40 years.
:rofl:Once this happens you let me know... These are the only teams who are "successful" franchises and understand the draft. Steelers Patriots Colts Giants Everyone else plays catch up and the Jets are NOWHERE near that level... Let the circus continue, at least our circus gets coverage...Oakland's circus? Nobody even talks about them.
Ravens Eagles (the state of Pennsylvania is 2 for 2) Jaguars After that the pickings get really slim. 5 of the 7 are AFC teams which is why the NFC is so weak right now.
The D was weak late in the year, the pass defense was horrid, but to say the season as a whole they sucked, well, I disagree. You can't say, replacing Barton with Scott, and Law/Lowery with Sheppard are not significant improvements. Well, you could, but I would disagree. Sounds like you are having a bad day. Why so negative?
I think the D will do well I am just mad that we did not get Cutler. You are right the pass D was horrid & the run D played well up until game 11. I just think with the Jets luck Kellen will not work out & Gholston will not work out (the pass rush comes from the OLB'S in a 3-4). So I am thinking we will not do well this year & going into next year we will need a QB & a pass rusher.
You do realize that 19 of their 22 starters have come out of their drafts and that they've won 11 and 12 games 2 of the last 4 seasons? Matt Jones got hurt last year or he probably catches 85-90 balls. He caught 65 in 10 starts. Reggie Nelson had 11 PD's and 5 Int's as a rookie before he slumped off last season partially due to nagging injuries that took him out for several games early last season. Derrick Harvey's a good prospect at this point. The Jaguars draft brilliantly. They get good value out of the first round, but more importantly they draft players later on in the draft that contribute in a huge way over the years. Byron Leftwich didn't work out in the end as a 1st round pick, which happens. It was a 4th round pick from 2002, David Garrard who took the job and ran with it when Leftwich flopped out.
I'll give you the latter, but here's a list of recent 1st round picks: 08: Derrick Harvey: traded way up to get him, and he held out all training camp and only contributed slightly more than Gholston 07: Marcedes Lewis....zzzzzzz 06: Matt Jones....off the team 05: Reggie Williams..... off the team 04: Byron Lefty....... off the team. not to mention both of their "high dollar" free agents last year were total busts and now off the team as well I casually root for the JAGS as long as their success doesn't have a negative impact on the JETS, but the past few years were suspect, thus Shaq Harris was shown the door. I think I may have missed the Reggie Nelson year in there
sanchez better then stafford, (GET F-ING REAL) NOT ON HIS BEST DAY.... stafford is pretty much ready to play NOW. at best sanchez is a 2 or 3 year PROJECT.
If he miraculously fell to us at 17, I'd be in favor of drafting him. I don't see that happening, as I've heard his stock is on the rise. He is the only QB I'd want at 17 though, I'm hoping that the Jets do not select Freeman at #17. I'm not sold on him. Like others have said, go with what we have for this year. If it doesn't work out, 2010 is a pretty good QB class.
Seems to be really turning heads with his workouts but like other posters said i doubt he'll be around when we pick. If he does come within striking distance i'd take a chance on him eventhough i'd like to see us grab a player that could come right in and contribute. DE & RB really lead my wish list.
