I think the last time a team that took a RB with a top 3 pick that made the Super Bowl was in 1979. Tony Dorsett was #2 overall and they were already a good team and traded a couple picks to move up. I have to look that up but I am pretty sure the info is correct.
There are some like Marshall Faulk #2 overall but he wasnt drafted by the Rams. Its an interesting case but it has been proven to go after RB's in the later rnds. You build other positions 1st.

    tomdeb,

I tend to agree. I think the QB situation is not as dire as everyone seems to think. I also agree that Houston can be a good player. He can be a perfect complementary powerback to whomever becomes the feature back. I am a proponent of trading down from #4. However, it is not out of the realm of possibility that one of the (edit - non-Bush) big 3 RBs (most likely Maroney) could fall to us at 29. I love that we have 3 high draft picks and a ton of flexibility in this draft. Trading up to draft Leinart takes all that flexibility away.

If it was PROVEN, then Bush would not be going first overall. I think what you meant is that it is VERY possible to find prospects at RB in the later rounds that have the ability to succeed. For every success story you hear about a late round pick getting the starting role, there are five who are out of the league. I am not leaning one way or another, if a guy is a good prospect you take him high, not because in the past a certain position In the frst round did not get a superbowl win. How many first round QB's have won it all in the last ten years? For shit sake a few years ago we had Delhomme and Brady in the Super Bowl. I dont agree with your PROVEN method of drafting RB later in the rounds
