Sorry, but I don't put a lot of stock in PFF's stats and metrics. He has been very good, more than just solid the last two years. PFF's giving him a negative grade proves my point.
What proof do you have that he was solid in a 3-4 the last 2 years? Do you watch him play? Cleveland in the run game has been below-average and the job of a 3-4 ILB is to be a run stopper primarily. They were even worse at stopping the run in 2012. PFF may not tell the entire story but it helps. Jackson had more of an impact in a 4-3 then a 3-4
Why are you being an ass? Obviously, we disagree here so I don't know what the point is of my even responding. Your mind is obviously slammed shut. Jackson has led his team in tackles and below are his career stats. You're wrong. I'm not being an ass, I am simply asking you where you are getting your data from. Tackles are overrated especially when the guy is like 8 or 9 yards past the LOS. I'm open-minded, but Jackson isn't that good anymore. Rather wait to draft Harris's replacement.
dudes!!! jackson has played 2 freakin years in a 4-3 and played every other year in a 3-4..every puts so much stock into these schemes.. he plays inside in both schemes…jeez
oh you don't know the difference between a 4-3 middle linebacker and a 3-4 middle linebacker? good luck buddy. they bout to go in.
I didn't say I wanted Jackson. I don't want to sign any FA that old and/or that is going to be as expensive as he likely will be, nor do I think Idzik will. I think he's better than you say he is however, and I think he can still help some teams in the NFL.
HIS role is the same in both schemes..hes played under crennels 3-4, mangini 3-4 witch are very similar..hes played inside and outside in dick juron 4-3..and played in ray hortons 3-4 inside..its not like he's playing inside in a tampa 2 where he covers the middle of the field
Ok so it'd be the 2 million of dead money plus whatever Jacksons salary would end up being (anywhere between 5-6 million per season i'd imagine) minus the 5 million saved from cutting Harris, for a total increase of 2-3 million of cap space this season from signing Jackson. It's really not too bad of a cap increase considering we'd be replacing Harris with his subpar coverage skills with Jackson who's probably one of the better cover ilbers in the game. If Jackson was in his mid 20's I'd be all for pulling the trigger, but considering that Jackson is on the wrong side of 30, and not a long term solution I don't think it's worth it to sign him. If Tanny was still running the show I think he'd be all for a move like this, I mean a high profile free agent signing was what he lived for. Idzik on the other hand seems to be intent on building this team through the draft and only using free agency to plug holes with good value players which frees him up to take bpa in the draft. I don't think Idzik will be making a play on any high profile free agent. I hope we get a long term replacement for Harris in the draft this year, but i know we have a lot of holes to fill and other positions with a much greater need of an increase in talent, like wr. Unfortunetly, we can't fill all of our needs in one offseason.
When it comes to LBs, I am more or so inclined to blame Rex Ryan. That is, I really don't think he puts too much stock into LBs. He absolutely loves his DLs and secondaries - but, I am inclined to think that, to him, LBs are nothing but the garbage collectors. Of course I could be wrong, but this impression came from reading his book on 46 defense. The treatment of linebackers in his book was very, very terse. DLs took the most of the attention, followed by the CBs. [Safeties and LBs were more or less neglected - and I had to notice this when I looked at the way Jets defense was set up.] On top of that... Houston's defense [at least while Wade Phillips was calling the shots] put a premium on the production of the LBs. This was more or less because Phillips believes in gap-shooting 3-4 DLs, who regularly eat up double teams. Someone has to take care of the business - that is the LBs. If you haven't realized yet, this Texan defense had a lot of similarities between the Buffalo defense during their SB run - anchor at DL [Bruce Smith/JJ Watt] and gap shooting DLs that didn't look like a human mound, followed by 2nd-tier LBs who could produce. Anyway - for this reason, I was hoping Jets would look at Reggie Herring, as he was the one coaching the Texans LBs for the past few years. Instead he went to Chicago, and Jets promoted LB coach internally. I am feeling pretty pessimistic when it comes to LBs for a reason.
D'Qwell Jackson's parents? There was a Governor of Texas from 1890 to 1894 named James Stephen Hogg. He named his only daughter Ima.
Thats a completely normal name by todays standards. Pretty sure theres a prospect in this years draft named Ha Ha Clinton-Dix. Ha Ha is a name now.
How about Urhines, that's pronounced Your Highness? 2 others that I have come across in my work were La-shia, wouldn't be all too strange except the mother informed the the dash is not silent so it is pronounced Ladashshia and another in that same vein La', pronounced Lapostrophe. We actually have a names list at work since we come across so many like this.
