Yeah, getting the players is one thing...identifying the ones you need to keep and KEEPING THEM is another. The loss of a franchise RT in McKenzie to the NYG is a huge red flag for me. And the failure to protect a young asset like Derrick Ward was another. Ward had a huge game against the NYG in the preseason and the Jets stick him on the Practice Squad where anybody who needed depth or a young RB could just take him, and the Giants did. Now the kid's going to be a top free agent. yes we have RBs in Jones and Washington, but Ward was a chip we could've used to trade. Just as they got nothing for Pennigton this year. I think Ratliff is the real deal...you can just tell by the way he handles himself, the ball and the team that he's got real strong leadership vibe and confidence. Will Ratliff get lost in the shuffle when the new coach comes on board? Will they chase somebody elses free agent and risk this guy getting released? I'm not impressed with Tannebaum so far. He's had huge misses in the first round, and with the exception of Leon Washington, not much doing in the later rounds.
You do realize that McKenzie and Ward left under Bradway's regime NOT Tannenbaum's. And it was Tannenbaum that signed Rhodes and Cotchery to long term contracts. And it was Herm that stuck Ward on the practice squad. In order to get under the cap for Favre's contract they had to release Pennington, there was no choice. If the trade happened earlier in the preseason perhaps Tanny could have gotten something. But he really couldn't do more than he did. Huge misses in the first round? You mean like Mangold? Or Revis? Or Keller? Or Brick? Gholston is looking like a bust, but it is still early. So he is 4 out of 5 in the first round. Where are the "huge misses in the first round" you speak of? Not much in the later rounds? Do you mean Lowery, Stuckey, and Harris? Honestly, do you have any idea what the hell you are talking about?
Woody wants him back....Not Tannenbaum. I doubt if it was Tanny who initially wanted Favre in here. I think it was Woody who wanted him here so that he could sell more Jerseys. Tanny obviously had to agree to what his boss asked.
