Revis will dominate randy on Sunday. I like the way he ask "what do you know about football?" Then the reporter sounded like he was crapping in his pant. Go! Revis! Go! Jets! Lets make it 3 in a row against the pats!
You still didn't answer my question as to why a reporter who has covered the NFL for a decade doesn't know simple defensive formations.
Anybody see this article? Let's just put Revis on Moss all day and see what happens! http://www.nj.com/jets/index.ssf/2009/11/ny_jets_d-coordinator_mike_pet.html Jets defensive coordinator Mike Pettine may have inadvertently underminded cornerback Darrelle Revis' argument that he single-handedly shut down Patriots wide receiver Randy Moss in the first meeting of the teams in Week 2. Moss caught just four passes for 24 yards in the Jets' 16-9 victory at Giants Stadium. Afterwards, Revis claimed victory, saying he shut down Moss by himself. Moss, meanwhile, was unimpressed, saying Revis had help all game and it's easy to play defense that way. This week, the battle has raged as the Jets prepare to meet the Patriots in a rematch on Sunday with Revis repeating his claim that he covered the ultra-dangerous Moss all by himself. Moss has 58 catches for a league-high 891 yards and seven touchdowns this season. Enter Pettine. Asked Thursday how much of Revis' coverage of Moss in the first game was man-to-man, Pettine said: "I don't have numbers. We mixed our coverages up a lot. You have to do that against New England. You can't give them one look. I can say this, we weren't in a lot of true cover zero (man-on-man) with no help. Nobody in the league is. Most teams in the league, I would be shocked if they averaged more than four or five snaps a game of straight man coverage with no help.'' There you have it.
I have a question. When exactly did the NFL institute 11 players on the field and exactly what were safeties jobs back in the day when you could call a cornerback a cover corner. Am I on drugs here? What the hell sport have I been watching? What was the responsibilities of a safety back in the 60's and 70's? Were they cheerleaders? Did they just cover tight ends? Did the safety line up at the nose tackle position? Exactly what the f is the definition of the word safety. Isnt it the last line of protection against a touchdown? How many times do you see a deep ball thrown and there is only a cb back one on one in this day and age? Every friggin week. I understand the concept of lining up the safety over the cb for deep coverage. If the standard offense uses 3 receivers (back in the day of the cover corner there were 2 many times) then the safeties have the ability to have deep coverage on two of the three receivers. Duh? The way I understand this is...anyone can play the position because a cb has help all the time. Two against one. Why the hell would any team need a great cb. Stupid me...I forgot to look at the other side of the ball..and see whos playing cb with Revis just to see all success that person has had too with all of the help they get.
Um, how about we just play sound defense. Who gives a shit what kind of coverage we're in??? I say lets play the coverage that best allows us to shut down all of NE's receivers. I'm sure BB is just salivating at the idea that we might come out trying to "prove" something between Revis and Moss and play without up top safety help. You have to understand that this is one of those times where percentage is misleading in matchups (just like Left Tackle verse defensive end). If they throw to Moss 20 times and Revis shuts down Moss 18 of those times, but two sneak through for touchdowns, guess that, we lose! I'll trade bruised egos any day for the comforting knowledge that for those 10% of times where the receiver will finally get a step on the DB, that there is help up top to at least limit the damage. Remember, there isn't a DB in this league that could cover _any_ receiver indefinitely, if the QB isn't pressured (bold statement I know, but even the jabroni receivers in this league are exceptional athletes). The idea is that a shut down corner can stick to a receiver long enough for the up front pressure to get to the QB, and in those rare instances where Brady has extra time, I don't care if 5 guys are shadowing Moss at that point.
Randy Moss is an Idiot. This is why I fucking hate Randy Moss. This is why I have always hated Randy Moss. He is a fucking douchebag when he gets shut down. Revis needs to back-up his talk? He was talking about shutting down Moss in week 2. Moss had 4 catches for 24 yards, and he says Revis needs to back up his talk about that game. He already did, you stupid, egotistical, narcissistic, quit-on-your-team mother fucker. What a couple of little chicken-shits, they run and hide behind Belichick's skirt when Revis calls them out, after listening to those two a-holes I'd love to see the Jets knock Brady out of the game!!
