For the month of October, said pillows will be pink to recognize the fight against breast cancer. These pink pillows may be extra slippery as they've just been removed from the packaging, so players should be extra careful not to let them slip out of there hands and into an opposing players head area.
I don't think the Jets are gonna have much of an issue. I don't remember seeing any very violent helmet to helmet contact on a Jets defensive play this year.
That rule is called, "Where's my face rule", automatic $100 grand fine if a defender knocks off a players face.
The statement released by the NFL said helmet to helmet and "devastating hits" would be punished. So it's not just limited to helmet to helmet blows. Now let's say this hit happens: And the Broncos have been coached to fake injury if 24 blows them up. Royal stays down writhing in pain for a minute or so while the booth reviews the hit. Is there a possibility that 24 gets ejected? I think so.
I'm taking devastating to still require some type of helmet to helmet contact. I also thought that the league is gonna review hits before suspending guys. If they are going to give the ref's the ability to eject guys for hard hits this rule is gonna destroy the NFL.
Eric Smith says hi. I don't think (or hope) this is going to be as big a deal as it's being made out to be. So long as the after the fact suspensions are limited to helmet to helmet hits and really late hits, I have no problem with putting teeth in punishment for dirty play. If something like the Leonard 'penalty' or a little more borderline gets a suspension then I'll be just as up in arms as everyone else. I want to see how they implement this and on who first.
The guys in the booth that look for instant replays within 2 minutes will be responsible for looking at hits that players should be ejected for and buzz down to the refs on the field if they see anything.
this? There is helmet to helmet contact but it isn't major or violent. If this type of hit is going to draw a suspension from the league than every team will have guys suspended this week.
Well at least they will have the ability to look at multiple replays before making a decision. I think that there is 0 chance Revis or Harris get taken out for either of these two hits. Revis' was just a hard hit and Harris' could have drawn a flag but I see that same type of contact in almost every game that I watch.
I doubt that hit would draw a suspension or ejection, but as of right now we just don't know. That's part of the problem, the rule is so vague at this point people don't know what's going to happen.
But if Royal is faking dead on the turf, don't you think they could consider that a "devastating hit"? We don't know how they're going to enforce this.
I hope not but as you say we just don't know yet. I would hope that we aren't going to see guys get in trouble just for laying some wood. If they are going to legislate that Revis hit out of the game the NFL will be as popular as hockey in ten years.
What if the league made helmet like these? Without a doubt would prevent concussions and make the game even more fune to watch.
Another option would be to change the fields to include a 3 foot deep layer of foam balls that the players would have to run through. That will not only slow them down, thus making the blows less violent, but it will make there falls to the turf much less injury prone. amiright?
It shouldn't have too much impact on the Jets since hits on Tom Brady were banned by the league a long time ago. Seriously though good defenses like ours will be punished and good offenses like ours will be rewarded. The net result for our team depends on which unit is better and by how much. In other words it all depends on the continued development of Sanchez. Right now I say the rule hurts us more than it helps.
The Jets like all teams will be affected by the new rule on hitting. Perhaps rules like this can encourage coaches to get their defenders to work on their tackling fundamentals & actually make arm tackles. Tackling fundamentals seems to be going down as big-hit plays become the norm.
I'm calling it right now - those shrimps at New England are lickin their chops. There is going to come an instance where Brady can't convert on 4th and something so Edleman/Welker/Woodhead feign injury from a tackle and get the 15 yards and 1st down. Gotta think Belly is loving this rule.
