Every single first CB selected in the last ten drafts -- Newman, Hall, Pacman, Tye Hill, Revis, McKelvin, Jenkins, Haden, Peterson, Claiborne -- started at least six games in his first year. Half of them started at least 13 games. The last two CB's selected first -- Peterson and Claiborne -- started 16 and 15 games respectively. Miller is a #9 overall pick and the presumptive starter opposite Cromartie.
Good points.But He still needs to earn the spot.The jets have good depth at cb& dennis thurman is demanding on his dbs. 6 games starting is not even half a season. I hope for the jets sake that he does win the spot. That said he has a long road ahead as both wilson & lankster are very capable #2 corners. You dont draft a player solely for his rookie year.Most players need time to adjust to the nfl.Contributing early is far more reasonable & important than starting. "He better start cause we drafted him at pick whatever" is a dangerous way to run a franchise. Not to mention if youre depending that much on a rookie to start you likely arent in very good shape roster wise

With all due respect, I think you're looking at it backwards. They're not insisting he be great because they drafted him at 9. They're drafting him at 9 because they think he'll be great.

Maybe you could slam dunk this argument by comparing Wilson with, say, another career nickel corner. Because you should give up your idea that he is anything close to a 2CB. Just give it up. They drafted him to be a nickel, not because he had starting potential, but because they thought they could find the best nickel possible. To complement their super-secondary. They said it. They said it. Stop denying it. He doesn't have the skill to play 2CB. And they knew it.

Who cares? Rookie CBs take some time to develop. Even Revis didn't tear it up in his rookie year. The best person for the job will be the starter. If Milliner proves he is capable in TC it will be him. If not it might be Wilson. The problem is I believe that Wilson is a good slot corner, so I'd rather see Milliner on the outsides. But all good things take time. I don't expect Milliner to be replacing Revis right out of the draft. He was valued as a top 5 prospect before the draft so I'm happy about the pick, but nothing is guaranteed. If coaches don't play the best person available then they aren't coaches.
