No, Mangini was supposed to be a disciple of Belli. He was supposed to insanely prepare for each came, methodical in every way. He's supposed to have his players die for him on the field, he was supposed to be the answer to the Jets' woes...and sadly that hasn't happened (yet).

We need a happy medium between the Edwards<->Mangini spectrum.

Wow, now that you mention it, I've never seen Mangini talk directly to a player in a game.

Mebbe the gum chewing is a trick. Mebbe he chews gum so when Woody Johnson looks at him he thinks Mangini is talking into his headset cuz his jaw is moving, but really, that headset isn't even connected to anything.

I would have liked to seen us go for it on 4th and 2 from the 38 in SF territory early in the game. If we could have gotten the offense rolling early that would have helped. Singletary went for it twice on his own side.

He was calling the plays... Unfortunately his head set was connected to the SF sideline.

Is this all you guys have? Mangini is progressing. He's not great yet, and he still shows signs of being out-duelled but he definitely is getting better. The one thing I don't agree with is playing the opponents ball style. I think you play to your own strengths and let the cards fall where they may. If you need to make adjustments at half-time then OK, but how can you have that "identity" they keep talking about if you're constantly morphing into a different mindset?

Do you want Herm back? Mangini is a far better coach than Herm was, so I think I already know the answer to that. I'd rather have Mangini for another 4 years than switch again.

Even Bill Parcells had teams go out and perform like shit here and there. It happens.

Here's what we'll do, we'll switch coaches every 4 years because the Jets dropped 2 in a row at some point in that time period. I'd much rather have some consistency at this point. And that's not a function of how I think Mangini is doing this year, it's just a function of, when you change coaches every couple of years, you end up in a constant rebuild state. Who the fuck wants to do that again? Let's keep the guy we have, who is clearly a smart dude, and see him progress. What's the difference if he fails? Do you think Woody is going to bring in a big name coach in here? Hell no. So there we go sucking for another couple of years. Might as well keep the dude we have who currently shows more promise in his 3rd year than some big names could provide.

Why does he need to speak to players during a game? I know some coaches will feel the need maybe to offer some encouragement, or bitch someone out... that is their styles. Maybe he leaves the players to take care of their business. They are professionals... they practice execution every week, and they know what is expected of them. Having someone in their face when they drop the ball doesn't always motivate everyone. That isn't to say he doesn't either say something to lower level coaches and then they approach their squads players. That leaves the head guy to monitor the overall game.

I really don't see why everyone has to bitch about how he coaches the sidelines on Sunday's. For 8 wins this year no one had a beef with it.

What you say is logical and makes sense, but its like being smacked around for 40 years - soon you cower and cover up as soon as someone raises a hand. A couple of losses (bad losses) and you get that same feeling again. Can't help it.

actually thats not true, i had a bitch with a couple of those wins but i was told oh be happy they won, a win is a win is a win... blah blah blah. now maybe some of you see why others bitch when the team plays poorly and wins. its not about that particular win its about getting better every week.

i do not remember tom landry being too talkative on the sideline, and he did ok for himself. however i will not at this point or probably any point put mangina anywhere near his class.

Well there is always someone on the other side of the fence saying "I told you so!". We call you folks kooks. hehe... just kidding. Not everything is hunky dory in Jets-land. I am happy we are where we are, but there is also improvements to be had. I just think much of the whining is just emotions talking and not real helpful or insightful in the long run. And just getting into Mangini for how he manages the sidelines during the games is getting kinda petty. I think the coaching staff has some issues, but his chewing gum or being a rock on the sidelines are not a part of them.

    Jetzz,

The main issue I have is that he cannot get a team UP for certain games. He even said on the Kay show today, the team was concerned with losing focus because of all the media saying how the Jets were the best in the AFC. He went on to say they made it a point to emphasize to the players to NOT LOSE FOCUS and THEY STILL LOST FOCUS. That's the issue.
