good point....i like chad, i really do.....prehaps if we add a very good RB in the offseason and upgrade the o-line a little we will really have an idea of what chad is capable of....i mean with CM chad was awesome for the most part.....chad has impressed me very much with the way he came back from all of his injuries, but we simply need to give KC a chance if chad plays like this next year on an improved team, rebuilding year 2.....chad has been a decent-better than average qb this year, but i doubt we can go all the way with his inconsistency that he has shown this year

Oh, I agree, any scenario in which the Jets make a Super Bowl run this season (I don't believe there is one) includes Pennington learning to make throws while under duress. He hasn't been able to do so with any consistency.

Still, let's not forget that he was arguably the best quarterback in the league in 2002. He hasn't returned to that form yet, but he's certainly shown signs.

yea, he's had games this year (hell, the game today) where he has shown his 2002 form, but i just can't stand the way he can look SO bad some days like last week.....i like the idea of chad starting next year with a real marquee RB and a better o-line, not to mention a full year into the system, and a full year with the emerging star jerricho cotchery.....i am just saying that if he has a season exactly like this one next year, prehaps it may be time for the future.....i do expect him to have a much better year though, i hope

Absolutely. The Chicago game, which actually seemed more winnable to me than the Buffalo one, especially comes to mind. The Browns affair would be another example, although I've tried to efface that from my memory.

The stigma is that Chad can't complete the deep ball, which is absolutely untrue. He's been hitting Coles on fly routes all year long, and the throw to McCareins today particularly comes to mind. The real problem is that he can't regularly fit 12-17 yard throws into tight spots. I'm still undecided on how significant a problem this really is.

yea, chad has a very underrated deep ball.....they don't give him enough chances IMO to "throw it up".....he can't fit balls into tight spots for the most part, but he makes up for that with smarts and accuracy....the real problem is Mental when things aren't going his way, which is a bad thing, but is fixable IMO....a real RB to fall on when he has an off day would be a nice start

He can't fit balls into tight spots????

This is by far his greatest strength. Thing is, he thinks he can fit the ball into ANY spot, ala Favre and this is why he throws too many picks.

i meant based on arm strength he doesn't sling balls in there.....i said he makes up for it with his great accuracy, i worded it wrong

Haha, ok. 'Cause did you see that pass early on he fit into Coles? Dierdorf was raving about it, even though he's a friggin idiot. Great accuracy there.

No, his accuracy is certainly top-notch. However, accuracy and "zip" are both necessary to hit a 15-yard out with any regularity.

New offense and coming off 2 surgeries has to contribute to the lack of consistency. I really think he can do great things next year with a full offseason of not rehabbing.

The thing with Chad is that he will be much more successful with a marquee running back behind him. I know Houston and Washington have done a good job this year but with a running back like Curtis Martin behind him Chad excelled. Chad runs playaction as good as or better than anyone in the league other than Peyton Manning. He would have much different stats if teams knew there was a legitimate threat in the backfield

According to Football Outsiders' DPAR, a much more reliable statistic than QB rating (a fairly useless indicator), Pennington is the #12 QB in the league as of Week 13. Considering the below-average performance against Buffalo and above-average performance today, I would imagine his ranking after Week 15 will be similar. That's just one spot outside of the top third of league-wide passers, for those of you playing at home.

As has been stated repeatedly in this thread, imagine how he'll play with an improved running attack, another year removed from shoulder surgery.

It may very well be similar to 2002, when, incidentally, FO ranked Pennington has the second best quarterback in the NFL behind MVP Rich Gannon.

How many QBs in this league stink with a marquee running back behind them? Of course he'd be better, but for the amount we pay him he should, like Peyton Manning, make the RB better, and not the other way around. I've said all along, cut Chad's salary in half and use that money on an RB, and we could have something. It's hard getting the solid RB though, and forget hoping to draft an LT.

Absolutely, give me a halthy Chad and we'll win alot of games. Next year he'll have played a full seasons ince the injuries and hopefully we can get a feature back and take some presure of him. if Chad is healthy and plays the next 3 years we will be a SB team by the end of the 3 years.

Even with a solid/good RB Chad would be 100 times better. If teams were forced to respect our running attack Chad could use his playaction to complete more passes downfield.

When he's healthy we win and usually make the playoffs, why not? You gotta be in it to win it.

Why must it be so absolute? Pennington is our starter Christmas night in Miami, then New Years eve at home. I'll re-evalute after that as I'm sure the CS will as well.

In essence all Chad's defining loses have been to clearly superior teams, with far more talent in other areas of the field. All these teams have also won or contended for a Super Bow.

    (1) Oakland-2002 , best team in the league all season and AFC representative. (Chad did beat Oakland to get us in playoffs)

    (2) Pittsburgh-2004- Jets should have won this game if not for some poor kicking, poor coaching, and a Santana Moss drop. It's additionally noteworthy that Pittsburgh won the super bowl the very next year.

    (3) The many loses to New England- New England has been the class off the NFL for the 6 years. Edwards v Belichek need I say more.

    (4) 2004 Beat the Chargers in SD with a torn rotator cuff , taking out LT, Brees, Gates, Jamal Williams, Phillips (the core components of the best team in the NFL this year, with a better QB)

    (5) Beat Indianapolis 75-0 in the playoffs.

Match the Jets weapon for weapon against any of the teams aforementioned and the Jets are clearly dominated.

Chad has simply been outstanding .

The Kelly Clemens talk is moronic

Eerily similar to all the Ewing bashing, another superstar who carried us and only lost to superior teams and talent. Ewing, like Chad presently, went severely underappreciated until Eddie Scrubby Curry came into the picture.

Ewing was a winner. Chad is a winner. I hope to god he stays healthy and Clemens joins a traveling African leopard circus
