I agree that QB, OL and elite RB are all areas that need to be addressed sooner than later. I don't want another defense player in the top 5 unless it's an edge rusher or shutdown CB that's going to be an immediate impact guy. Otherwise Mac needs to evaluate the shit out of every player in college and find our future offensive cornerstones because we need players who can create TD's. He should be able to find a stud if we pick in the top 5.
How did our last couple of first round DB and LB drafts go? Maybe we could pick more OL guys off the scrap heap. We have missed the playoffs 6 years in a row. How many of those years have we picked a defensive player first? Did we improve as a team because of it?
That doesn't change the facts of what the reality is for the 2017 draft. Also, because other picks at those positions may not have worked out doesn't mean that any future ones won't. If there aren't excellent OL or QB prospects there, they aren't there. The worst and dumbest thing Mac could do is to refuse to ignore their draft board and refuse to choose a defensive player simply because he was a defensive player, and take a lesser offensive player. If there's not an elite offensive player at our draft spot, hopefully Mac can trade down, acquire and extra pick or two and then there will be a great offensive prospect at that position. There are no guarantees, however, and it takes another team coveting a defensive player and being willing to pay the price to trade up.
There is this weird belief that Mac is a good GM hamstrung by the owner. Newsflash: Good GMs don't take jobs where they're hamstrung by the owner. They take them because it may be the only shot they get...
Without a blue chip, savior QB in this draft we need to trade down to fill more holes in this draft. Getting a decent pass rusher in the bottom half of round one along with another player(s) will be better than whatever we would do with that pick.
We won't get a top 5 pick because we will win one or two more games which are meaningless to both teams so it's a moot point but no I wouldn't trust this GM with any pick anymore. His only good pick since he got here was his first one.
WE MUST IMPROVE THE OFFENSE DONT FALL INTO THE TRAP OF WHAT "EXPERTS" ARE SAYING ABOUT THIS DRAFT LOOK AT DALLAS AND OAKLAND.... YOU BUILD FROM THE OL THE JETS NEED OFFENSIVE PLAYMAKERS THAT SCORE YOU POINTS KEEP BUILDING ON D AND KEEP PLAYIN NOT TO LOSE IS DISASTER CHANGE IT NOW MAC ......IAM SICK OF THIS STUPIDITY jmho
I agree with your comments about the experts, come draft time, there are always some college players who separate themselves from the rest of the pack and rise to the top of the draft board. This year will be no different. I believe some good offensive linemen will be there for the Jets to pick.
I still trust Mac to find good talent, unfortunately no trust that Bowles will develop that talent. Anyway, my ideal draft consists of QB, HB, OL, OL, TE, WR in whatever order makes most sense. There will be an offensive talent worth taking in the top 5 and it's Macs job to identify that talent and select him. If not he can hit the road with clueless Todd. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
People are talking about drafting defense with the top 5 pick already.... (Goes outside and screams bloody murder)
Trading down would be great, but if they cannot, they should take one of those edge rushers or elite CBs. Then go offense the rest of the draft.
As usual when the Jets have a top 10 pick and quite possibly this year top 5 it turns out NOT to be a QB class. Unless there is a stud left tackle this is the perfect draft to take that pick, move down in the 1st round and grab a few more high picks. My biggest concern is Mac simply cannot use those picks on projects. This is his draft to prove he knows what he's doing. We've been here before and watched GM after GM screw it up royally. Let's see one finally get it and make the right moves.
That is not a bad thought at all. You trade down and get an offensive lineman and a pass rusher. I wouldn't hate that idea at all. The problem is that without a blue chip, savior QB like you mention that hurts chances of someone trading the farm to move up with us. Although I could see teams falling head over heels for Jabrill Peppers and the Jets taking advantage of them for it
I too say TRADE DOWN!!!!!!!! It's about time we start accumulating picks instead of trading up every damn year. My concern this year is that nobody else will want to move up....
