I agree he is our best blocking WR. And teams do have to account for that fly pattern. I like his attitude, he's way young, and i think cutting him may actually cost cap space. wouldn't mind him on the team. it's just getting real tough with the roster spots. I think we need 9 Olineman unfortunately, as i don't see Aboushi as a backup swing tackle option. I'd like to keep Simms. Barnes on the Dline has shown promise. Guys like Hakim, Rontez Miles, and Troy Davis have stood out on ST. we also have draft picks like George, IK, Reilly, and Enunwa who can contribute on ST, and will be a risk to try to sneak onto the PS. i wish the PS had a bit more protection built in. Final spots will be tough choices..
He has a lot of upside as a KR with that speed. I think it will be a season long move. Where he really cemented his spot in the roster imo, was the good showing at Punt and Kickoff Gunner as well. He will be a 4 Core special teamer. I just hope that speed, and the ST experience, translates something to the WR position as well.
I've been thinking a lot about who is going to make the team and I'm having a hard time deciding who I think it will be. I'm starting to think Barnes might be the odd man out. I think Babin is possibly an upgrade plus he provides vet leadership. With Barnes on the PUP list, can you really make a strong case for keeping him around? I think Boyd, Enunwa, Dixon, Reilly, Reeves, Patrick, Pantale, Miles, and William Campbell are all headed to the practice squad. I think we keep 9 OL as well, I'm thinking it's Brick, Ijalana, Winters, Aboushi, Mangold, Freeman, Colon, Dozier, and Breno. OLB is one of the hardest to make cuts, I really can't decide who I'd want to see cut. If really love to keep Pace, Coples, Babin, McIntyre, and Enemkpali if possible. Out of the LB's Bellore, McIntyre, Enemkpali, and George can play special teams so I'm not really thinking Troy Davis will make the team.
i was talking about big TJ Barnes. would love to keep him, he's earned it, but can we carry 6 DL? At ILB, Edds has outplayed George on both D and ST. Do we carry both? Can we risk George clearing waivers? Or do we cut Edds to protect a draft pick who isn't ready quite yet? At OLB, i agree that is our biggest question area. Babin is a one trick pony, but we need that one trick for now. He is terrible against the run. Antwan Barnes will be put on the Reserve/PUP, and won't count against the 53. I think Babin is on an audition to keep Barnes from reclaiming that spot. McIntire has done enough to make the team. That leaves maybe one spot between Davis, IK, and Reilly. They've all shown good promise on ST, with Davis standing out the most. If i had to take one, would probably be IK for the upside. Then there is the secondary. We have 6 decent Safetys, but only 2 decent CB's. How many CB's do we carry to ensure ongoing depth and competition? Does Patterson make this team? Will Allen really see time at CB rather than Safety? Between Miles, Jarrett and Bush, who gets cut? Miles has really stood out on ST. Jarrett had a very good camp. Bush is more capable at playing the single high safety role. Those are my questions still. I think Hill is the only big question left on O, while the D has a whole bunch. I would love to keep 26 D players, 24 O players, but think it'll end up an even split due to the Oline.
I like your thinking a lot, I also question whether we keep Edds or George, but I have to go with George. George may not be ready but he has made some plays, and I think he will benefit the most from the experience. If we were to waive George we could lose him to a team like the Cowboys, where as the chances Edds plays for us beyond this season is pretty minuscule. He has played better, but not enough to win out over a draft pick who hasn't looked bad in my opinion. I think we have to let TJ Barnes go. We have 5 3-4 linemen without him and a handful more when you consider some of our OLB's so I really can't justify giving him a roster spot. I think we need 6 CB's and 4 safeties, because of the weakness of the secondary. I have as little of a clue about Patterson's future as you, but assuming we keep him I'm looking at Milliner, Patterson, Lankster, Wilson, Walls, and take your pick. I'm guessing Lewis but maybe Dixon will get it purely because of draft pick status. If Patterson goes we need to sign someone. The safeties seem to be pretty clear, with Top four consisting of Pryor, Landry, Allen and Jarrett. Perhaps to start the season we'd keep Miles and use a Allen as a CB/S until the position shakes out, then Miles goes to the PS assuming he's probably inactive for the games anyway. Hill seems like an obvious keeper to me.
our backup OT situation is a little scary. Aboushi has looked terrible at OT in my opinion, but at least has showed good progress at G. Ijalana hasn't looked good either, but at least has some experience at both OT spots. It's possible our backup OT isn't on the roster yet.
If this isn't sarcasm then I'm not quite sure what you've been watching the past three weeks. Guy has looked lost
That's too bad to hear only preseason shit I've watched was the last game. His metrics are really good tho so I hope we give him a chance.
First game he was completely in the clouds. Second game was not much better. Granted, I watched this past week's game on vacation on my laptop via a shitty stream, but I don't remember anything about him jumping off the screen at me. That may be a good thing though.
A great QB would do wonders with Salas...I think the pressure has to be placed on Geno to make these receivers great/better. Just like Manning and Brady...you need a qb that is a desired destination for receivers. If not we must continue to be patient and build through the and hopefully find a wr with talent.
If Hill makes it over Salas I will begin to question my commitment as a fan of this organization. We clearly need better talent scouts. How do we keep missing out on these pro bowl draftees?
I remember him converting a couple huge plays on screens against the Saints last year. With an entire offseason in the system/with Geno I wouldn't be surprised if he broke out. He's got the tools. He's got more upside than Nelson but less consistency. You know what you're getting with Nelson; Salas is more of a boom or bust. Whether or not MM wants to gamble is up to him. Personally I might consider it, you've got consistency in Decker, Kerley, Ivory and somewhat in CJ2k. That leaves a little room for gambling with that last receiver spot.
2 And those players are few and far between. Welker started playing well towards the end of his run in Miami and then went to a situation where he played with an all time great QB, then went to play with another all time great QB in Denver.
