They also were missing their defensive coordinator for the whole season and 4 starters on defense for the first 4 to 6 games. The offensive head coach goes out and the offense keeps rolling but the defense gives up 115 points more. 2012 was an anomaly. If you took any NFL team and knocked out their defensive coordinator and 4 starters they'd suffer in the process.
The last two Super Bowl winners each led the league in penalty yardage during their championship seasons. I'm not saying it's a template to follow, but it doesn't necessarily prevent a team from having success.
Sean Payton was talking about a player that committed two personal fouls of a nature that said player predicted he was going to commit months ago, when the rule was officially put into place. Oh that's right, he didn't even name that player, and basically threw his whole team under the bus for the dumbfuck decisions of a guy his team just made the highest paid tight end in history. Real hardass there. Rex was talking about a couple of Olinemen getting rowdy and protective about a receiver getting dumped for downing a player legally. This thread is fucking stupid. Especially since people are now arguing about whether or not Brees would be a great QB in Miami. WTF?
I stopped reading after the first sentence, yes rex does have a Superbowl ring, with the Baltimore ravens
not sure if anyone said this stat.. last year the team with the most penalties was the seattle seahawks. the year before that was the ravens both won super bowls those years
Yeah, not /thread. Glad to see people trying to use a style of post originated by departed posters they supposedly hate, though.
People are totally mistaken with their assessments about the penalties against Cinci. To me, all those penalties were a good experience for the team as a unit. I like that the offense is establishing some type of unity by going a little bit over the edge to protect their teammates. It shows the team has a fire under them and cements some loyalty which is important for each side of the ball to establish. Rex admitted they were over the line, but I get the point. Its a preseason game and your playing against an opponent you don't like, so your a little more reckless and willing to draw a flag but its worth the intangible aspects of building character within a team. I anticipate the Giants game being very much like a regular season game, in which your going to see aggression and heat, but they're going to try and be smart. They got what they needed to do out of the way, I have a feeling the personal fouls will clean themselves up. It's the false starts and 12 man on the field penalties I don't want to see.
Wonder if the Pats will get flagged again for pushing a fellow player into the LOS during a FG attempt. hahahahaha. that ends my contribution to this thread
I would have said Drew breed but its funny. Fans used to bash herm for being least penalized team b/c he wasn't aggressive enough. Fans will always whine no matter what.
oh c'mon...... No question he was a later bloomer, but to say he was a "a borderline NFL starter" is ridiculous. If SD did select Rivers #4 overall, who knows maybe he stays in SD. He wasn't a hot commodity because he just tore up his throwing shoulder rt before becoming a free agent. Alot of GMs probably thought there was a good chance he ends up like Pennington..... You're reaching so far on this one you're going to tear your labrum and rotator cuff too.
Imo there's some possibility that the Bengals game was an anomaly. I think it was the worst loss, most dispiriting loss, last season. Dalton looked all pro, and he is not all pro. I think the players remembered, and used a preseason no count game to lay it on Cincy. We shall see if it is only that if they keep the penalty total down against the midgets.
I do think the different way they answered basically the same issue is telling But that doesn't mean it guarantees success for Sean and failure for Rex And it's nothing new. Rex wants to be loved, Sean wants to be respected.
Dude I think we probably win two or maybe three games last year with Rex out. And that's being optimistic about it. So what's your point?
Ok so 2 of those years we went to the ship so all this tells me is that it doesn't freakin matter if we are highly penalized
