The team really lacks a difference making pass rusher still. No OLB that consistently forces pressure and mistakes. We really do need our own Suggs / Ware / Miller type. Even an Ansah would be a world of difference.

  2. Turnovers have been a problem on both sides of the ball for a very long time.

Offensively it's sort of redundant as collectively the unit has not been good since 2011. But self inflicted wounds of all types including giving the ball away really drive home the unit's ineptitude. Worse..w. the constant reality of conservative defensive HC, their answer is to always shut down the offense. Avoiding turnovers & controlling the clock takes precedent over scoring & moving the ball. In the modern game that type of thinking gets a team killed.

Defensively is actually an even bigger shame. All those early picks/FA Acquisitions & we still can't field a unit capable of making plays. I think there are a good number of reasons for this.

    1. The team does not draft playmakers. They draft teams on paper. It's more important to fill a positional need than it is to let the player find his role naturally. It can often stun a player's development when they'd normally be settling into their role & reacting on the field which is when individual plays most often occur.

    2. Bowles/Rex/Mangini harping on a "Multiple" scheme. More priority is given to finding guys who are versatile than finding players w. tangible skill & compliments to their game. You end up w. alot of vanilla.

    3. Lack of confidence in the offense eventually leads to the defense playing "off' & not wanting to take chance that would normally result in plays.

Whatever the actual reason...takeaways has not been a kind aspect of the game for our lowly Jets.

No matter how you slice it, no matter what reason you think is most responsible this team MUST improve their turnover differential. Until that changes there's NO way they will ever compete for even so much as a .500 record. Blowes needs to start coaching trying to create turnovers. He's as bad at it, if not worse, than Rex Ryan in that area. A complete disappointment in every sense of the word on an otherwise good defense.
