He's only justifying a future cheap shot on the field against the Steelers. Say goodbye to your knee, Big Ben.
HAHAHA! What a beautiful love tap! I'm glad he did not get hurt but he got JACKED UP! Polamalu was just saying his prayers for the guy. What a hit by Clark. Hats off to the stoolers.
was correctly called a penalty. You can't take shots at players like that. It looked like an attempt to knock him out or injure him.
Why not? He led with his shoulder, not his head and not a forearm? As the league gotten so pathetically pussified that you can't even put a lick on a receiver now? The call was bullshit just like half the calls made this year have been.
What's most comical about this event is all the Boston fans who defended Harrison and Wilfork with their shit eating grins are now crying foul play. Obviously an illegal hit but you can't have it both ways. And, the defenseless reciever rule is bullshit. If the Steelers intercept that and Welker is not hit he could make a tacke. If the ball is tipped and the whistle has not been blown, you play. That's what we've always been taught since pewee. Shouldn't be Clark's responsibility to make sure Welker hasn't let up. The Pussification of the Sport marches on
um... he's nothing special? haha Wilfork you old tool. why should being special matter? oh wait you meant he wasnt a patriot so he should get a lifetime ban? oh ok now i get it...
The ball was tipped all bet are off. Clark blasted welker and it was legal no way there should have been a flag. Hines ward broke a dudes jaw and there was no flag. F-thepats and F-welker.
It's really stunning that Wilfork would say this shit. He's been involved in three dirty plays that have resulted in fines (correct me if I am wrong) - the Cutler hit to the head, the dive at the QB's knee last year with the elbow, and one other one that i can't specifically recall the details of. Anyone with character and honesty would say, "Hey I play hard and take my shots at people. This is a tough league," or something similar. Not this fuckhead. He calls it the Clark hit on Welker dirty. Unbelievable. I hate the Pats.
As a Steelers fan...let me weigh in on this a bit. A few weeks ago against the Colts...we had tipped passes that Reggie Wayne kept after to make big plays. Once a ball is tipped...the defender is allowed to make a hit to prevent the receiver from making a play. Welker saw the tipped pass and gave up rather than be a professional and try to make a catch..so that would be the ONLY reason you could call this hit dirty. If Clark doesn't keep going 100% and Welker makes the play off the tip..then what...Clark gets lambasted for giving up on the play. We love hard hits in Pittsburgh...even on our own players. Santonio Holmes got lit up last week, and I still had to tip my hat to the Bengals because it was good hard nosed football. The problem is that fewer and fewer teams are physical these days and more and more fans cry about hits like this. Clark got a penalty on the play and I cannot say I disagree with the penalty...but if he's suspended or fined for a hit like that when it WASN'T helmet to helmet then I call NFL Shenanigans....when Matt Light can do what he did and get nothing.....or how about the hit by Woods on Heath Miller in which he CLEARLY leads helmet to helmet and knocks himself out. No flag...nothing
Amen, brother. Light attacks a guy without a helmet and doesn't get suspended. No way Clark should be suspended.
100% Agreed with everything. And we're all jealous of how the Steelers play btw. I wish our defense played like that. That's real football but if the league has it's way it'll just be a memory we share with our grandchildren
This league is so tilted towards protecting players that they are destroying the instincts of these players and making them into pussies. It's to the point where hardnosed players like Hines Ward are labeled as dirty when they do everything by the book...and when they don't, I'll be the first to admit it's a penalty.
I've been watching football for over 30 years and I say it was a cheap shot. The hit would have been flagged in any era the game has ever been played. Welker was clearly not able to catch the pass. The ball was miles from him and there's no way he could have gotten it. The hit was obviously an attempt to intimidate / injure the player. The NFL can and should discipline players for behavior like that. Welker's season or even his career could have ended with that hit.
Agreed. But why the hell should we cry about this hit when Wilfork and Harrison and company have been taking cheap shots at people over the past few years with abandon? I'd be more sympathetic if this was a franchise that had conducted itself with honor over the past few seasons. Instead, the Pats have laughed about good sportsmanship and class as they cheated their way to a perfect* regular season. Why shouldn't the steelers send a message? Porter has said that he thinks that the Pats stole his chance at a championship and Ward has said that he thinks that the Pats stole their signals in the AFC Champ. game.
Lets not turn this into a Spygate thread. The ball was hardly miles away...it deflected and was still in the general vicinity.
Don't you see my point? The Pats have freely stretched the rules and cheated over the past few years; why should I be concerned about a borderline hit on Welker? Do you think Wilfork would be concerned if Ward took a hit like that from Harrison? Fuck no.
