The flag was totally legit, the guy hit Welker before the ball even got to him.

That said, there's no greater joy in life than watching Patriots get knocked the f' out!

Haha love the mixed bag of responses here.

I forget who made this point in this thread, but it's a good one: The penalty is probably warranted, but let's see what Goodell does about punishment. A fine may be overboard, and a suspension would be an outrage, especially given Light's slap on the wrist.

Don't forget Wilfork and his elbow-to-the-head "love tap" he gave Cutler a few weeks back. This is gonna be interesting.

Exactly. I don't know if it needs to be done more because there's a potential for real injury, but it really was the Steelers sending a message. Sure it cost them 15 big ones, but Tomlin must've been smiling inside.

    Now that's a hit. Damn.

I'm sure he'll be suspended early tomorrow morning.

After slowing it down, I wonder if it's possible for Clark to make a case that it was legit.

The ball was tipped, and it appears he hit Welker before the ball touches the ground; meaning that if the defender (to the left and behind Clark) INT'ed the ball, the hit would be fair game because it'd be considered a block on the return. The question is, did Clark know that ball wasn't going to be INT'ed?

If this had to happen to any player, I would pick Welker. So that was a very enjoyable video.

But it begs the question...why can't the Jets do this to anyone?

Dirty and unnecessary, but still awesome because it's Welker. Glad he's okay, though.

dirty dirty hit, Welker let up, this bothers me, I am for sure on the bandwagon to destroy someone when they have the ball or get their hand on the ball by any means necessary but this was terrible.

I hate anything Boston so much that I'm sitting here watching that video over and over trying to find an excuse why that wasn't dirty. Whatever, fuck Welker that loud mouthed punk

    Sorry, but after:

    1. Brady laughing about running up the score in 2007
    2. Belly spying & general douchebaggery.
    3. Belly's willingness to stretch the rules to benefit his own team (Ty Law Rule)
    4. Harrison's dirty plays
    5. Wilfork's multiple cheap shots
    6. NE's classless celebrations by doing the Merriman dance in SD after winning the 2006 playoff game.

My sympathy meter for Welker is as follows:

Because our players need to keep an even keel because that's what the Coaches preach and that's the Coaches' demeanor.

The closest thing we get to this is Barton, who either late-hits QB's by forearmming them to the head in crucial situations, or by taking the ball and throwing it downfield.

Actually, the closest thing we had to this was John McGraw but he wound up taking out himself more than the opposing players.

Here's a blast from the past:

    http://www.usatoday.com/sports/football/2008-01-25-1253941532_x.htm

Perfect in the standings, the Patriots are hardly the model of proper behavior. Call them chippy, even dirty. They just shrug their shoulders. They're not about to change their aggressive style, even if it starts yellow penalty flags flying and opponents' lips flapping.

Rodney Harrison has been the target of enough critics of his body-crunching blows during a fine-filled 14-year career to remain unaffected.

"Who cares? It's football," New England's safety said. "We sign up for a dirty sport, a tough sport, a very physical sport, and that's what we do. And, when you're on the field, anything can happen."

Well that settles it. By Harrison's standard, Clark shouldn't be fined.

no, there is a rule about hitting a defenseless receiver when he can't catch the ball, that hit is extremely dirty, it's for example far dirtier than the hit on coles by zach thomas that had this board going nuts.

No question it was much more of a cheap shot than the Thomas hit on Coles.

Football is a tough sport playing by the rules...when you go head hunting, it gets into the cheapshot area....Leaving your feet to destroy another player falls into that area....no matter who the player is......

The fans that never played the game are usually the ones defending the hit...walk a mile in our shoes before you start with the cheering.......

I can imagine all the crying if Coles or Crotch were injured with a hit like that...

4 games to go and it's the Jets Division to lose.......

Yeap. Let's see if there's talk from the team about this hit, though.

Ask and you shall receive. Mr. Pot, say hello to Mr. Wilfork, I mean Mr. Kettle. Could Wilfork be any more of a hypocritical douche?

    http://www.boston.com/sports/footba...008/12/02/trip_to_london_capital_idea/?page=2

Clark blasted Welker over the middle, leaving his feet to deliver a shoulder to the head, after a Matt Cassel pass had been tipped well out of Welker's reach. Welker left the game with 2:03 left in the third quarter and did not return. Clark was penalized for unnecessary roughness.

"Of course it was a cheap one," Wilfork told the radio station during his contractually obligated appearance. "We've seen it on film all year. He's nothing special. He's nothing special. He deserved that penalty. There are a lot of times they take shots, unnecessary shots on guys.

"If you're going to sit me down and send me to the commissioner's office for me playing in between the whistles you need to sit this guy down. The same thing I got punished for is the same thing he did.

"I've been fined. I've talked to the commissioner about my play. That was unnecessary. We've seen it all the time, leading up to this game; this guy taking shots when nobody is looking, or when it's out of the play, he's taking shots."
