I still can't get my head round to Green-Beckham being available at our pick and us getting this scrub... man...
There were many players I would have taken before Smith in the 2nd round last year. If it had to be a WR I'd would have gone with Lockett
Why not? Many teams would not touch Green-Beckham because of his lousy character, or if they had, it would have been in a lower round. Having all the talent in the world means nothing if the guy is always on suspension, or is a cancer in the locker room and a constant distraction.
I agree but i think we had the perfect situation in place (I.e. Veteran players all over the board on O) for him to succeed. And while he may still bust his way out of the league is ceiling is tremendous... Having him working with stand up guys such as Marshall, Decker and Fitzpatrick would have worked for him imo.
I love his talent. His freshman year I was raving about him and wanting the Jets to get him. Then came the suspensions and trouble. You may be right, he may have been fine with solid veterans around to mentor him, but sometimes that's not enough. People have to realize that THEY have a problem before anything will change. It doesn't matter how much you try to help them, how many positive role models or mentors you surround them with. If they don't accept that they need to change, they aren't going to. I can't blame Mac for not rolling the dice on the kid.
Smith was a bad pick that a lot of people liked at the time he was drafted. Had it not been for his performance in the college football playoffs he's probably a 4th rounder. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
He's had one season in the NFL, what exactly makes him a bad pick? Are you proclaiming that you already know as of right now that he will never be any good?
In all fairness, he's right. Devin Smith may become a stud, but a two game hot streak made him seriously overrated at the time.
Good Lord, you take a trip to Disneyworld, have your team win a national title, and THIS is what I have to greet me when I come back? Devin Smith absolutely sucks. he flat out sucks. He can not catch. he can not hold onto the football. He is among the least talented individuals ever drafted by this team joining a huge list of second round draft choice busts by this organization. There are only two other Jets players who had equally bad first seasons that in my mind they would be career busts: DeWayne Robertson, and Kyle Wilson. Before long, hopefully Smith will be joining them off this team. There aren't enough trips through "It's a Small World" that will EVER get this horrific, game-costing image out of my head: God, does he ever suck.
I can't, because I honestly believed Gholston would turn it around after his first season. Boy was I wrong.
I'm sure glad that Peyton Manning guy decided to retire after his rookie season. Man, did he suck. Oh wait. Judging players after one season is retarded. Especially with a QB for a noodle for an arm that can't take advantage of the receivers biggest strength.
What a terrible rookie year for Calvin Pryor. He sucked. He'll never amount to anything in this league. http://www.forums.theganggreen.com/threads/calvin-pryor-benched.82548/
So true, I don't think Fitz reached him once all year when he was at full speed..in fact I don't think he even got it close to him.
Think we are judging this kid to soon. I agree it may be the third year before we really see what he is capable of. Hopefully his rehab is right on track.
