While I agree, they won't return, the restructure just spreads the CAP over multiple years. Davante is getting paid in full this year. Just the CAP hit is spread. And it is called "dead cap" if he is not on the roster. But it doesn't really play any role in whether to retain him or not. In other words, the difference between what you paid him this year and the CAP hit next year will be on our CAP in future year(s) regardless whether he stays or not. That already happened when we lowered his CAP this season to the number that's below what he actually got paid this season. We essentially borrowed from future CAP. It has no bearing on his contract guarantees beyond this year, which is 0. Now, because JD pushed a lot of CAP down the road to win now (well to lose now), new GM will be in a tougher spot to sign expensive players in general.
