Are you kidding me? He easily could have hit Jackson lower and avoided that type of collision. But everyone wants the big highlight reel hit. And regardless if the ball is knocked out or not, the spot would be virtually the same.
I have often thought that if instead of the players wearing hard plastic thigh pads, shoulder pads, helmets, etc., they wore leather pads over foam rubber, there might be less serious injuries. If somebody tackled me, I would rather they were wearing leather-foam rubber shoulder pads than hard plastic pads.
I say suspend the player for h2h not fines. $$$ is nothing to these multi-millionaires. Multiple suspensions from repeat offenders should warrant extended time away from playing so that these players hurt their teams.
With respect to the actual hit, I don't see much difference between that play and the Revis hit yesterday. The impact after the hit is what looks different to me.
Revis tackle was a far superior, far safer form tackle. If you look close he actually has both arms wrapped AROUND the ball carrier for a split second. He also has his facemask squared and he's driving his weight through the tackle which gave it great impact. Revis distributed the force of the tackle across his entire body while Robinson used mostly his head, shoulders and elbows. They were two entirely different hits which is why both players in Revis tackle were not injured and the other 2 were seriously hurt. Players are taught to form tackle because it is safe and effective for all parties involved. Robinson's was a "punk" tackle.
Back when my grandfather played they wore leather helmets and it was more of a running game. Stuff like this rarely happened. The emphasis on the vertical passing game, combined with stupid rules and advanced equipment has propelled the game into a physics defying territory that can/will result in death.
I think you're being a bit generous with Revis' tackle description but I agree it was completely legal and far 'safer' than Robinson's hit on DJax. Robinson turned into a cannonball on that play while Revis squared up and layed the wood. You can not turn yourself into a flying projectile leading with your helmet against a guy running full speed in your direction, defenseless. That shit could have done permanent brain damage.
i agree with you 100% most people love hard hits but that was just completely unneccessary., anytime the player doing the hitting fucks themselves up along with the other person you know it was reckless and dangerous
Mortensen says that the NFL may announce as early as tonight suspensions for blatant dirty hits but of course it won't be retroactive. It should be..fuck them, give them 4 games.
Well lookie here. Robinson gave himself a concussion too. If that's not reckless and stupid, I don't know what is. What's disturbing is the Falcons coaches and players are making excuses for the hit. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/09000...sion-on-jackson-collision?module=HP_headlines FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. -- Atlanta Falcons cornerback Dunta Robinson has a concussion following his hit on Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver DeSean Jackson that knocked both players out of Sunday's game. Falcons coach Mike Smith defended Robinson's hit Monday as the cornerback faced possible punishment from the league. Jackson also suffered a concussion. "We all know Dunta," Smith said. "He's been in this league a long time. He's a guy who plays the game very hard. That was a bang-bang play in terms of the contact. I know from my vantage point it looked like there was no helmet-to-helmet contact, but it was a bang-bang play. I am glad that both those guys are going to be all right, but it was a big-time hit."
