The one thing...... This better not impede our ability to sign Mo Wilkerson...... I'm on board so long as we can keep him as well

He is under contract and if the cap is 150M next year as some predict we will be 67M under as of now. Money next year is not a problem either.

If the reports are true that us and Oakland are the two teams to land him, I can't see why he would go to Oakland. If he comes to New York he will be reunited with Marty and could possibly be receiving the ball from his old friend Vick. Two guys that he loved in Philly. Going to Oakland is like moving to an island by yourself. There's not much over there lol

maybe because they are willing to overpay for him, and Idzik isn't?

No I'm talking if he is released. Obviously being traded is not up to him

He may have no choice as the talk now is still about a trade and not a cut and sign.

I know. I'm referring to about him being released considering the reports now coming out that they will release him if they can't find a trade partner.

If you have a chance to get Jackson, I think you have to get him. He's a big time talent at his position.

if he hits free agency he will be too rich for Idzik's blood. I think he ends up getting traded.

    Brian Costello tweeted earlier today:

The issue with the salary cap right now is we have roughly $29million.

Out of that $29 million we need:

    $8 million for draft picks
$10-15 million spending money which will likely be carried to next year. Most GMs go by the theory of have a buffer amount of spending money in case an opportunity arises or an injury occurs.

This leaves us with about $6-11 million to spend without having to dig into our spending money.

We may still likely sign a CB, safety and possibly a TE. The potential big money acquisitions are few and likely limited to Jackson and Joseph. Possibly a mid level contract on safety like Clemons who could greatly help our secondary. Joseph may be cut or its possible to acquire him in a trade opportunity. Jackson just does not look the type of player from a character perspective that Idzik would want to spend that much money on. He certainly does not look like the kind of guy he would want to sign as his 1st bug signing. My guess is unless he is willing to renegotiate and give us a very good deal there is no deal and he will save the money.

Well, there are reports that are saying that if no one will take his salary in a trade, they will release him. I just think they have too much money invested in weapons on offense and they feel Maclin will be back to his normal self.

Are you referring to Mehta? Mr. anonymous source quoting, surprisingly, an anonymous source? I'm not buying it for a second.

Well, whether it's true or not, we all have no idea, but yeah, it is Mehta LOL

Either way, I was just posting in reference to that happening. If it did.

This is what I'm thinking too. A lot of talk that he won't accept a pay cut and that's one of his issues with Philly. If these cap numbers are accurate then I don't see how the Jets could get him for his asking price.

There is no issue with the cap, most new contracts the 1st year is mostly signing bonus with a small base salary. This enables them to spread out the hit. With that $29M they could probably sign 3-$10M a year players in addition to the draft and a few complimentary players.
That is why you see so many teams able to sign someone to a $8M contract when they have less than that available on the cap. $8M-$10M new contract only shows up at around $4M-$5M on the cap first year in many cases.
Of course this can hurt down the road.

So let me get this straight. He wants more money, and these sources suggest the Eagles don't want to give him what he's currently getting. So the Eagles know what they have in Desean and realize he's not worth the money he's making. But Jet fans disagree with that and say pay the man?
