Agree. Also saw somewhere they were notified of his questioning with regards to the homicide before they gave him the big deal.

Problem I have with the Dyer article is there has been ZERO leaks about anything the Jets were doing this offseason and now all of a sudden we're getting anonymous sources telling him we're not interested? Not buying it.

The decision to get rid of Jackson was likely made months ago when they decided to resign Cooper and Maclin. They made an effort to trade him but once the owners meeting ended they likely realized that was not a viable option. The question is or was when to cut him. The story may have been a good excuse to do it today but the decision to cut him likely had been made long ago when they were able to reach agreement with Cooper and Maclin.

I understand why the Jets would want to give him a 1 year deal, but I'm not sure Jackson's agent would let it happen. Aside from the gang speculation, which the more I think about it the less I give it major credit, Jackson is an ascending talent and proven playmaker. The guys who take 1 year deals do so in an effort to rehabilitate their perceived value, but coming off a productive 1,300+ yard season, what are the chances he'll be more productive than that, especially on the Jets? Unless both Jackson and his agent are extremely confidant Jackson will eclipse his 2013 stats (something which I'm sure his agent is too smart for), this is the prime chance for Jackson to sign a multiyear deal somewhere and ensure financial stability. If more information comes out, dynamics may change but right now a 1 year deal is a pipe dream.

Yeah, not only did the Eagles know about everything in this "story" years ago, they signed Jackson to big money anyway. Dynamics change, and it's looking like the Eagles realized they have no need of Jackson's abilities in Chip Kelly's system, and they certainly have no need for his bulky contract or attitude. Knowing this probably around the time of the playoffs, they stabilized the receiver position with bargain guys in Maclin and Cooper, and began to see if they could gather a pick or two for Jackson. Of course teams were interested in that kind of production, and of course the media made a big deal about it. I didn't expect the Jets to ever actually trade for him, and if Jackson wouldn't restructure, there was no chance of a trade really at all. The Eagles knew they had to try and handle it with care, but I imagine they knew no trade was going to happen. The fact that the Eagles had the steadfast approach, and the balls to cut him loose, makes me think the Eagles are going to be one of the most successful franchises for the coming years. I hope the Jets fall into that category as well, and I feel that the moves Gang Green has been taking is sending us that way now. Did the release of the "story" influence Philly's decision to release DJax? Most likely it caused them to release him Friday instead of Saturday or Monday. But any smart print would say they were the reason, it makes the writers seem a lot more valid and important than they are.

If he takes a long-term deal now, though, it's going to end up being something like $8m/year. Decker only got $7.5m/year and that was the biggest contract a wideout got all offseason, I think. He was getting over $10m from the Eagles and was complaining about being underpaid, so I don't think he would want to get locked into an even lower paying contract than what he had with the Eagles.

Dynamics change. I'm sure a few weeks ago he never thought he'd be cut and lose out on his remaining 30 million salary. He has a couple options, but he has lost considerable leverage recently. Teams will be reluctant to shell out the 10 mil/year range because the draft is so full of WR potential, but if he waits until after the draft the most WR needy teams may feel that they are set with their rookie picks. If he continues to wait for more money, perhaps in the event of an injury, he could be waiting into the 2014 season. By default Jackson will be getting less money than he wants, but I really can't imagine he'd pass up a contract entirely. The Raiders are the favorites to get his services, and the Cheifs are in the mix but they will need to play with the cap quite a bit. They have Dwayne Bowe only 1 year into a big deal so they probably don't want to commit to 2 long term contracts, again especially with the WR depth in the draft. It's possible it could play out where if the Jets offer him a 1 year deal fully guaranteed that greatly exceeds the per-year salary the Raiders offer, we could rent him with Jackson hoping his chemistry with Vick and MM will give him a shot a recuperating his value for 2015. Just remember, if he gets injured, Jackson will be saying bye bye long term stability, and he will certainly have to take far less in 2015 to prove to teams his speed isn't effected. I think the Raiders will do just enough to make sure their long term contract sounds better to him than our rental.

    Horse shit.

To say that his life off the field is irrelevant is false. That has a MAJOR impact on a football team.

    Micheal Vick
    Plaxico Burress
    Aaron Hernandez

Just to name a few, these guys hurt their team. These guys cost their team. Set them back. It's not worth it, especially for a rebuilding team.

He got busted not to long ago and he is affiliated with gang members. He has a troubled past ever since his father passed away. The Eagles released him for these off the field issues, it wasn't football related. He was hurting the team and he would have no doubt hurt much more in the near future. So they cut their losses and are allowing him to be another team's problem.

It has nothing to do with money. Idzik will pay what is right to the player, Wilkerson will get locked up on a fair contract in the future. Stars don't win games, teams win games. Right now we are REBUILDING a team. The last thing you want is interference and distractions within that process. Djax would be that problem.

At this point, I don't care one way or another if we get him. We do, great. Him and Decker would be a good tandem. If not, no problem, just draft someone like Cooks and another receiver in the draft.

I just don't think he will be willing to settle for some long-term $7m or $8m/year deal. He was very unhappy getting $10m/year and I doubt that getting released is going to make him quickly say "Well, I might get injured, so I'll take $8m/year even though I deserve $12m/year." I think he will look for the biggest 1-year deal and then get in at the beginning of free agency and try for a big deal then. He'll be 28. If he locks himself into a 4 year deal or whatever, then he will have missed his chance at that last big contract because he'll be 31. At that point, he will mostly have 1 and 2 year deals available to him, so I think his bigger priority will be to set himself up for that last Tier 1 deal next year.

I could be wrong, but I just don't see him taking some discounted long-term rate. He doesn't want an Eric Decker deal, he wants a Mike Wallace deal.

The Mike Wallace deal was an embarrassing last ditch effort by the Dolphins GM, Ireland. The rest of the GMs around the league promptly learned from that mistake. So say Jackson can garner somewhere between $10-12 million on a 1 year deal. Say he gets hurt playing on that $10 million deal. So then he's 28, and no one will give a guy so reliant on speed and hard cuts even a $7-8 multi-year deal coming off injury, so he's going to have to sign another 1 year prove it deal somewhere. Most likely, whoever signed him in 2014 will have considered him a 1 year rental for a SB run, meaning he'll have to move cities, probably learn a new system, build chemistry with a QB, and then have a career year to boot. So assuming all of that went well, and he is not hampered by the previous season's injury, he will be 29. Who is going to want to give a 29 year old speed receiver a multi year deal anywhere in the realm of $10 million? Most likely no one. Players who take those value-rehabbing 1 year deals are coming off of years where injury diminished their value, plus Maclin is going to be in a great system. If Jackson can get $8-9 million/year from Oakland, and be set for 5-6 years, he and his agent would be kicking themselves for not taking it.

To the 133 that wanted to trade for Jackson, wow!
I see names in this thread calling Holmes a locker room cancer and now wanting Jackson, huh really?

I'm not against taking Jackson, but not at any cost, one year deal with options.
I'm fully onboard with building through the draft and haven't been this excited about an upcoming draft since 2006. I think we could easily come away with 2 good WRs such is the depth of this draft.

Make Jackson a reasonable offer, he accepts, if not he goes to the Raiders , good luck with that one

The Jaguars could be a sneaky team to grab him, I'm not up to date at all on Justin Blackmon's suspension but last I heard he could be out the whole year. If that's still the case they have the need, and they have the cap space.

I was thinking the same thing tonight. At this point, will anyone even give him a 4 or 5 year deal? I suppose probably, but what about guaranteed money?

I voted NO! Trading a pick was always a bad idea.

I vote he goes to KC, or Oakland. If not though, I could see him coming here, but I highly doubt it. We won't pay him more than others will offer surely, and he seems greedy for cash.

KC are more 'ready' than we are and coach Reid there as well.
If he went to the Raiders and does have gang issues....I hear that they may also be going back to LA
