Rex says he's "not sure" about Derrick Mason. "I would like to have Derrick." Rex says Mason wasn't reason Cotchery was released. #nyj From Mehta's twitter. Which means they offered him the minimum and he left.
JennyVrentas Jenny Vrentas Rex on Jerricho's release: "That's tough; no doubt." Said he asked for trade/release. #nyj They can bring back Edwards if they want and Mason doesn't sign.
It's ok. Keep the Masters of Burger Assembly. I'll stop now. I don't want the thread derailed, and I don't want to engage an obvious troll any longer than this.
wtf, this team is worse then last year. stop trying to think otherwise cause youre a jet fan. No Cotchery, No Edwards, no Brad smith.... replaced with shit.. no chemistry at all for sanchez... were fucked. the whole nnamdi shit, totally fucked us.
I'm sure the details of what went down on this will trickle out eventually.. for right now though it puts the Jets in a tough spot and gives Mason some leverage with his contract. I assumed it was a done deal, but apparently not. Need to get this done, or we suddenly have a hole at receiver. Also, I think this marks the first time a player asked to leave the Jets under Rex's watch. This had to be something with hard feelings from bringing in 3 receivers now to be ahead of him on the depth chart since the start of 09 (Braylon, Holmes, Plax).. Rex said he saw it coming but chose not to believe it. Sucks.
But you forgot to mention the addition of Plax and most likely Mason, as well as Kerley who could definitely help. It's not like we have gaping holes there. I agree it would be nice to have continuity with Sanchez, but he still does have Keller and Holmes, his buddy McKnight could play a role, not to mention Tomlinson out of the backfield. I think we will be ok.. if Cotchery was that unhappy here, it wouldn't be beneficial to keep him around anyway.
The Nnamdi situation only had a direct effect on Smith. Had we not gone after Nnamdi, we conceivably could have taken a run at Smith, but we wouldn't have come close to the absurd amount he got from Buffalo anyway. It sounds like Cotchery left of his own accord. Even if he hadn't, his salary was an issue because of the other contracts we signed leading into and through 2012; if it's a monetary issue, he would have been released either way. Edwards went unsigned by us because of his own personal issues, not because we tried to sign Nnamdi.
Hard to put a rookie into that prominent of a role, especially after just 2 or 3 days of camp. Definitely need a veteran in the mix with Kerley as the 4 and eventually could slide into the 3 in some packages imo..
Wonder how all the people acting like their dog died that the Jets could be so disrespectful to Cotchery as to get rid of him are going to play this now. My guess is something along the lines of "Fuck Cotchery you traitor, he was just on ESPN saying the Pats were the favorite!!!"
Yep. I'm not worried about it. If we lose Mason, Sanchez will rely more on Keller and his backs until Kerley is ready to step up.
Like getting two receivers that are better then him. I loved Cotchery, but he got upset that he was bumped down to #3 on the depth chart. Is that really the Jets fault?
