Unfortunately, he’s on the decline. His stats show this. Also Stafford has 20k more pass yds than him. It’s not good comparison. Stafford is a more high volume passer and consistent 300yd+ entire career. Derek Carr was an overrated QB, and now the new crop of QBs can easily mop him.
The problem with bringing in someone to compete with White next yr is that even Flacco beat out White. So pretty much anyone is going to beat him out if hes just a bad practice player. Hell even Zach can probably outplay him in practice so how the hell do you evaluate?
The fairest way to evaluate White's stats is to plug in those of a league-average backup for every game he misses.
Okay we are just having a pointless back and forth if you are going to throw random numbers that are wrong. Of course stafford has more career passing yards than Carr. he's had 5 more seasons. Carrs first 8 years - 31,700 yards Staffords first 8 years - 30,300 yards Hopefully Mike White balls out and is the guy. Let's leave it at that, something we can both agree upon.
Because Carr is not the veteran mentor/stop gap type, which is who I’d be looking for if I were the jets because I would plan on drafting a qb in the first round. Carr wants to start, he is not going to sit back while you play a rookie (see what’s happening now, he had to leave the team instead of being a backup). I would want to draft and start a guy, and have a veteran there in case the kid isn’t ready yet. Carr is not that guy. He wants to start.
The word on the street is McDaniels has done everything in his power to torpedo Carr's career. He wants Carr gone. The Jets have a gift staring at them. They cannot let him sign with another team. He can bring the Jets to another level.
Carr and his contract have 0 trade value and he has a “no trade” anyway. Point is, the Raiders should just release him now.
I don't think White is injury prone. The hits he took, I think anyone gets hurt. He never actually sustained a serious injury, was never injured in College. Played bunch of games in preseason over the years, never got hurt there. Last year he hit a helmet on the follow through in Indy, and had a hand contusion back the next week. Yes, he needs to wear flak jacket like Cousins and learn how to avoid the hits better, but I don't think the guy has earned the fragile label. At least not yet.
Agreed. When he’s protected he’s proven he can find the correct read 9 out of 10 times - and already knows the system well. So why not just spend the money to protect him for a year - and settle it. Carr is a larger risk, because he’s no guarantee and will be 5x more expensive.
Yes I am serious. I am talking Minnesota and Buffalo. Bears game is clear outlier. You have to get yards out of your head. White threw the ball 57 times to get the 365. Completion percentage 54%, 0 TDs. 2, Ints. Loses you the game very time. 59 rating, 22 QBR. Below average. He was better against Buffalo, but nowhere near what you are claiming. Average game. Stat lines. 31/57 369 yds, 0TDs, 2 Ints 18/35 317 yds, 2 TDs,1 Ints 20/41 355 yds, 2TDs, 3 Ints 23/37 307 yds, 2TDs, 0 Ints These are all 300 yd games. Which ones are average and which are below average? How many wins are in these 300 yd games?
Sorry, You can’t be below average when you’re #2 in passing yards and only have 2 picks over 3 games. That makes zero sense statistically. Bears wasn’t an outlier because he threw for 315 and 268 in the others. and The Buf game he was out for a quarter.
You want to use what if stats against Mike White, but you won't use what if stats in favor of Mike White. You're arguing against that touchdown to Wilson in the Bears game, but what if Berrios does his job and catches the ball in the endzone? The Jets win that game and Mike White doesn't throw another INT in that game. You can't have it both ways man. Be consistent.
White threw for 11 yards an attempt against the bears. He had the most completions, 12, where WRs had more than 5 yards separation of any NFL game this year. It is an outlier, period. It is an outlier for White, and for the NFL. Everyone is complaining that Jets drafted Wilson on one combine throw and bad competition then turn around and and want to make him the franchise QB based off bears game.
Heard the possible trade details. Zach Wilson and Elijah Moore, a first rounder and a third for Derek Carr.
All they get then is salary relief. With the Jets package, they get a QB, a good young WR, and 2 possibly 3 high draft choices. Plus the Jets are trying to get Devante Adams included cause he and Carr go back to their Fresno State days.
Pure speculation at this point. No way Douglas gives us Wilson, Moore and a #1 pick for Carr. Zach Rosenblatt who covers the Jets for the Athletic had a much more believable trade proposal; a 2023 third and a 2024 fourth round pick. Maybe the bids go higher if Davante Adams comes east too.
