And that’s the frustrating part, it’s year 2 and 3/4 of the games he’s deactivated. He went from playing, when available, last year to this. He’s trending downward. He’ll go back to being inactive and if what salleh says previously is true, he theoretically might not play again baring injury.

Now if there was something going on that was egregious, and nobody knows except them, I’d have dealt him. They’ve killed his value by doing this even if it is self imposed.
To me the most frustrating development yesterday was being reminded of Crowders ability, why they’ve ticked him off by playing hardball is beyond me. It’s more confounding when you add in that they are making Moore and outside WR and not a Crowder replacement. I doubt he’ll resign but given that he’s gone, Davis/Mims on the outside + Moore in the slot going forward sounds good to me, if possible!

So on one hand we watch Zach Wilson play with no veteran influence, we watch rookie corners some of them off the street play, and its because "there's no better way to develop than to see live action." And yet on the other hand you tell us we watch Denzel Mims sit because "this is what developing players looks like"

makes no sense. There is obviously a disagreement on Denzel Mims between the front office and the coaching staff.

Idk that they’re truly developing him presently or will during this season, until they completely are out of it. I’ve heard that you only develop by playing, and once the season starts, very little reps/time is allotted by coaching staffs to develop individual players that aren’t playing. Reason being game plans etc suck up too much tome.

And that being said, what are we developing anyway? This has been going on since training camp! July at least, assuming he didn’t know to work on this stuff earlier than that, we’re talking 3 months. And this ain’t brain surgery, learning the play book/ run crisper routes etc. It’s not like he’s doing anything else, he can focus on this and this only.

If the CS is to be believed, the other WR’s, a combo of rookies and new to system ppl, learned this in the same time allotted that he can’t. And they say that’s the chief reason, because everything else-speed/height-he’s arguably our best guy + a pedigree player from a maligned draft and yet he can’t play. Not will they design a package from him despite his physical gifts…

I ain’t buying it, I think there’s something else there.

Denzel mims’ performance has a direct effect on Zach Wilson’s development. Zach’s development is the priority.

So, Mims is not good enough to trade, not good enough to play, but too good to cut outright...

I think everyone is reading too much into all this. They trust Cole and Davis more to help Zach, but they’re still carrying 7 wrs which is a lot. Mims is in the future the future just isn’t here yet. As long as he’s having a good attitude, practicing well and winning the limited reps he gets it will work out for him. I expect next year to be mims Davis Moore

Ok so when you said "this is what developing players looks like" you were talking about Zach Wilson. You are essentially acknowledging that keeping Mims on the bench does nothing for his development, its only for Wilson's development. That's where I was getting mixed up, I thought you were talking about Mims

It’s both. It’s not black and white. Keeping mims on the roster is helping his development. He’s getting his practice reps. He’s in the meetings . I’m not going to compare it to a qb position where only 1 player gets the available rep and who’s development you’d want to prioritize and accelerate.

I don't think he's in the future or I'll rephrase and say they don't know if he's going to be in the future. But they feel confident in the roster construction to keep an extra receiver and him on the roster to see if the former second round pick can become a player.

Who is going to trade for a player that has 24 catches in 11 career games and can't get on the field when the Jets just fielded a horrible offense with drops all over the place in the first three weeks?

I still think they targeted Van Jefferson when they traded down, when Rams took him, they “settled” for Mims. Jefferson is starting to get it going with Rams. Not because better talent (maybe), but because of his route running ability. If Jefferson was on this team, he would be getting reps. The jury still out on Mims, but CS seems to be down on him, and he won’t get any chances until somebody gets hurt or he elevates his game in practice. If not I don’t think he is in the plans! That is the bottom line. Don’t know what issue is, but it is obvious with he being last receiver on depth chart! It’s not out of question that he puts it together, and becomes quality starter with or without this team. On the other hand could be out of the league in couple of years! Personally, I would like him to have some success with the jets, but we will see.

Agreed 100% especially because his dad was our receivers coach at the time and they were all over scouting him all off-season. Van's got really good twitch.

That’s fair enough. I should say they hope he’s the future. Cole can leave next year, mims finishes his rookie deal as CD”s contract expires meanwhile cycling in another draft pick plus Moore. That’s how you keep the cap healthy. Let’s hope it plays out something close to this.

probably one of the teams that liked him in the days leading up to the 2020 NFL draft, just a year and half ago

Sorry, it’s not one size fits all. You don’t get to take the same path with every player or every position. I don’t know how else to explain it.

I agree but you have no idea what they are doing to develop Mims in practice at all, so it’s just blind faith based on nothing

they play rookies everywhere on field in the spirit of development, that one we can actually see
