Goodell's going to do a live fan chat on NFL.com at 4:00 today. Willie should give him that word for word. I have a feeling he'll get quite a few of these. Unfortunately the only way the brass will ever hear the fans is if they start boycotting games, which may never happen - unless they start screwing with the game AND have a lockout.
I sent him the link on twitter - whether he actually read it, I don't know. Feel free to send it to him in the chat, I won't be able to. I would like someone to ask him to clarify the definition of "devastating hits", and to ask if he thinks this will increase players faking injuries on big hits to try and bait an ejection.
I'll give it a shot. Just need to find some diplomatic wording. I'm actually pretty decent at getting things answered on those chats, but I'm sure those will be HEAVILY screened.
So here's the headline for the chat (question submission is now open on nfl.com) Is that Goodell's subtle way of saying "Fuck your man-sized hits and your questions about them"?
Pretend to be a female fan and ask him why he's turning the NFL into a pusssy league. You should probably throw him a softball first. Lisa from New Jersey: Mr. Goodell, will I be able to buy pink jerseys for my newborn? Then go right for the kill.
If the guy really thinks there's enough chicks to fill a web chat sitting on NFL.com at 4:00 on a weekday then he's more outta touch than I thought.
I asked him if anyone has ever told him he looks like Jack Del Rio/Al Gore fused together. I mean, Lisa from New Jersey asked that.
what exactly is a devastating hit. how do the refs define it on the field? Commissioner Roger Goodell, NFL.com Robert, there is no rule pertaining to "devestating" hits and we're not establishing a rule. We are specifically targeting techniques that have a higher risk leading to injury to players. These are clearly defined rules with respect to hits to the head of defenseless receivers that were recommended by our competition committee and approved by the teams. I sent yesterday a memo and video to our teams to show to players and coaches which you can watch on nfl.com.
Honest answer.... It's clearly defined by Tom,Brady,Wes Welker, or Peyton Manning laying down on the ground and wiggling after even the slightest contact. The resulting penalty will be determined by evaluating the following criteria. A: Score of the Game. B: Importance of the offending layer to the teams chance of success. (e.g. Dwight Lowery gets 15 yards, and a probable fine. Revis is ejected)
no he didn't. all he said was because he got hurt playing football the NFL shouldn't change their practices and help prevent injuries to current players.
The statement came directly from the league regarding "devastating hits". Unless they were misquoted. After seeing the video I feel a little bit better about it, but I'm still apprehensive. I guess I'll just have to see what happens.
