Good deal, I've been happy with what we've gotten out of Nelson. I think he could be a decent #2 if we had a elite #1 otherwise we'll need to find a good #1 and #2 and Nelson will be a really good #4 for this team.

I like that he plays physical. I've always been a fan of WR's that like to hit defenders.

Good RZ target. Plus he's a great character guy. His off the field charity work is admirable.

This is a great keep. Guy's been good for us. I'd love to see him in a full season role. Great, stand up guy, too.

Steiny was wrong. He then tweeted that Nelson actually signed a 2 year deal when he originally signed and did not sign a 2 year extension. After that, he deleted both tweets.

Thus, Nelson is signed through next season and no more.

I like this move. I think he can be solid receiver going forward. He's been of one of the only healthy receivers on the Jets this year and has been reliable when the ball goes his way.

I thought the same thing. Perhaps Rex gets 2 year extension. So he will have 3 years left on his contract. Continuity is important, and Idzik can focus on getting some talent for our Offense to be competitive.

I'm not sure he is a typical #4 or # 5 WR (usually guys that blow the top off) He's not a #3 slot type (JK is the man). I truly can see Nelson as a stop gap #2 possession type. Draft and develop a Watkins or Evans next yo ear to be the eventual #1 guy.

Grab a FA like Maclin to be the one next year with Nelson as the two, JK as the three, Hill and Evans/Watkins the four and five. This signing gives the Jets some flexibility at the very least. Like the move but we still need to add another two top receivers via FA and the draft.

Is this a white puff of smoke coming from Vatican West aka Jets HQ? Doubtful but ya nevah know with 00_Idzik. I like the Nelson resigning, now couple that with sending Clyde Gates on his way and we will have definetly upgraded the WR depth. We still have dead weight to shed so lets read the tea leaves and see what happens shall we?

This will be the reason we don't take a receiver in the first round.

    I can just sense it.

If Rex is still here, you can bet real money on it.

So does anybody know what the actual deal is? How much did he sign for? How many years is he signed for? The only link in the whole thread is down.

Also, like everybody else, I'm all for this. He has been our most reliable WR this year as far as health + production goes. Kerley, and him are good blocks to build around. Tone is good as gone, and Hill can not be looked at as a piece moving forward. We should keep him just in case he some how breaks out, but right now we don't have much talent at WR, and Nelson deserves to at least be a role player for this team.

Great move by the Jets. Rewarding a guy who actually played hard and well this season. Not the best talent for a WR, but has given it his all. I like it.

    Exactly

As a 4th WR/red zone target he's fine. But the guy overall is a marginal player.

so wait, I recall he was signed to play this and next year. So now he's got an extra year on top of that?

otherwise this isn't news at all and whoever reported it is a little late. otherwise he's a fine fixture, if not a game changing one.

glad he's aboard and would like to see him through camp.

No. You're right. He didn't sign a 2 year extension. He only has next year left.

Yes! He's a good 3rd or 4th receiver. He reminds me of Brian Hartline and how no one outside the AFC East knew who he was but he has one big game and suddenly he's a big deal. Hartline stepped up after that, even though he was always decent, and I feel like David Nelson is similar.

I've updated the thread title, based on what I have seen there is no news on specifics, if it does turn out he did we can amend the title again.

Oh please, just let it be Nelson extending, and not Mark's enabler.
