He obviously knows how to rush the passer, so I see it as a positive that D'Brick has been able to stop him. D'Brick, with Faneca next to him, may be ready to take the next step.
Cut the bastard. How could he not learn a whole new position in 3 weeks? Must be mentally handicapped. Seriously though, I think you can also give Brick cradit here. He seems to be stepping up big time in camp.
hahahah darksiders, sunshiners, then you have the moonshiners.... funny.... give him a break, im pretty sure he is going to get better, he's young and thinking damn when am i going to spend my money, once he gets over that fact he will play better.
What! He hasn't picked up his new gig YET? It's been 3 weeks already!!! He's a 100% certified bust! Cut that idiot now! ---------------------- Seriously, though, did ANYONE expect him to start in game 1? I thought I mentioned this earlier during the draft day - this is Mangini's first day 1 pick that won't contribute in year 1 as a starter.
But...the reporter is the one who made the comparison to Long! I really get annoyed when people reflexively bash the reporters for doing their jobs. This was a very balanced piece that was highly relevant.
I'm trying to remember how often the Giants asked Taylor to drop back in coverage. I don't think it was very often. Let's see how the coaching staff adjusts to the player in this case. If he's a former defensive end who's a great pass rusher and you put him at outside linebacker that would suggest to me he should be stiffening the run defense and going all out for the QB on passing downs.
I agree. LT rushed the passer almost every play it seemed. If you have someone who can wreak havoc as a passrusher but is a liability in coverage, then just let him loose on the QB as he learns the other aspects of the position.
I said from the second he got drafted that he needed to be put in an LT/Merriman type role. What that entails is mainly attacking the LOS as a pass rusher and a run disrupter...and minimizing his time in pass coverage. hopefully the CS realizes this in a hurry.
I don't know how he was used his rookie season, but he didn't start a single game or get a single sack. A more relevant (based on being more current) comparison would be DeMarcus Ware or Shawne Merriman. Merriman didn't start a game until week 7 of his rookie season - he picked up one sack as a situational pass rusher in week 5. He ended his rookie season with 10 sacks. Ware started right off the bat and picked up 8 sacks his rookie season, 4 of which came in weeks 16 and 17.
Maybe they're toning him down to save his fury for week 2 and Tom Brady. The plan is were gonna pretend he sucks in coverage and can't do shit. Brady sees him comes in and thinks "I got it made he sucks". Ball is snapped and Brady drops back and sees nothing but a green blur coming at him. Next thing he sees double 56s standing over him. I hope thats the plan.
Mangini is from the Parcells coaching tree. Parcells never allowed his assistants to talk to the media at all...at least Mangini let's them talk once in a while
To be honest, I didn't read the article until I read your post, then I went back. My facetious post was more mocking a mindset of the board rather than Hutchinson.
We should trade Gholston now, while we can still get something for him... maybe get a 4th or 5th... anything!
