Honestly, Hackenberg would be very interesting.

His freshman year was awesome, but then Penn State just bombed in his 2nd and 3rd year.

 

So, we have a truly dominant trench and a back end defense that is formidable, and our weakness all season was edge rushing... Just no real speed.

We even rushed defensive backs to the detriment of the secondary to close the outside gap.

Now we draft a guy who is easily the fastest most athletic outside LB available.

This will never work. There were good receivers available, and also a spread QB.

I saw a fair amount of Hackenberg play (I have family who went to PSU and I watch plenty of their games).

More like a handful of dudes jerking themselves off annually on draft day.

Don't make them break out their spreadsheets filled with measurables. It could get scary.

 

Having Pryor and Lee in the middle of the defense is going to cause problems for a lot of the teams that want to spread things out because the Jets can spread out ok themselves out of the normal set. The Jets had nobody to match up well against the wheel routes to the RB's last year. They didn't have a good answer if a RB went into the slot before the snap. Now it is likely they have an answer for both situations.

I suspect we're going to see a lot of 4-2-5 next year if Mo stays on the team. Harris and Lee in the middle and Skrine in the slot with 3 big guys up front and Mauldin maybe projecting outside on the the right.
