No sorry that was an idiotic decision that can't be defended. He had a chance to make it a game and all but forfeited. 99 percent of coaches go for it there.. I'm not second guessing myself I said it at the time it happened .. it was pretty blatant go for it this is the game type of deal. He forfeited.

We needed to score on that drive, not let the bills milk the clock and pray we stop them on the road. Even if you 3 and out them it's still not a great move due to all the valuable time you lost

Saying he forfeited is stupid. HC's put the game in the hands of their D all the time if they think circumstances at the time dictate that is what gives them the best chance. It's just as dumb as saying that Mac doesn't value the OL because he picked Shepard.

There was not a single person on planet earth besides coach Bowles who would have punted, so I guess he himself is just stupid. It would be better to say he just forfeited otherwise it's just an insult to his intelligence.

    Near midfield

    Down 2 scores

    4 minutes left

On the road( no crowd behind you)

He has shown his sheer stupidity before , remember the kicking of the extra point against Buffalo 2 years ago? That was truly mindnumbing

I just hope he improves, maybe having a real QB will help him

He decided to put the game in the hands of his D. He didn't like the circumstances of deciding the game with one play at that time. If they don't make it the game is surely over then. The outcome allows you to second guess and make declarations about him without considering all the variables within the team, and then dismissing them anyway. If you wanna say it was a mistake that is one thing. But the other stuff is bullshit.
You want to hold on to two plays as proof of a forfeit and he's an idiot without considering why he did what he did. Not to mention when you look around at what happens in the NFL HC's make mistakes all the time, as a worst case scenario of what you're rehashing. Every fucking one of them has a learning curve. Again making declarations about what is happening within the team based on a couple of plays or a draft pick is an insult to intelligent thinking.

When coaches DO go for it in those tight situations you always hear from the players that it felt great having the coach believe in them and go for it.

The opposite has to be true when the HC takes the ball away from one unit and punts it to the other.

I certainly hope. Just the visual of him playing will get some of the clouds over the Jets QB play for the last decade and beyond.

That is the old antiquated 1970's style of playing idiot Bowles mind is wrapped around. How about scoring and putting the pressure on the opposing team to kill the clock? You can pin them down also by kicking off after you score. Or onside kick and get the ball back and put it on your offense. By punting you're helping them out and at the same time cutting the balls off your own team. Bowles does not have nor coaches a defense that can make stops. He get's ZERO pressure on the QB and his secondary does not have any playmakers.

You win games by playing to win every second of every minute in the game. You may not get that but a guy in the position of NFL Head Coach should.

Delegating is fine but that does not negate the responsibility of the Head Coach for everything that happens under his watch. He needs Harry Truman's plaque on his desk.

Parcells was also high on former Pats QB Jacoby Brissett. Hopefully he will be right on this one. Hopefully Bates and Darnold will coexist well together, time will tell.

Nice to read that Bowles is - apparently - close with Macc.

Guess you don't remember when we tried this approach against the Steelers in the AFCCG and we gave the Steelers 6 extra points prior to the half.

    That approach doesn't always work.

In general, NFL head coaches are getting better at understand situational analytics, but they still fail to go on fourth down way too often. They also fail to go for two point conversions way too often. Part of it is being entrenched in the old-school mentality, and part of it is fear of being roasted in the media by those idiot hacks who judge every decision on the result of the play.

(Ever notice how often key players are playing in the final minutes of a blowout? Does anyone ask the coach about this? Nah. It's a total non-story. Then someone actually suffers a freak injury and suddenly the coach is a total imbecile for having him out there.)

Anyhoo, Bowles punting down two scores with less than four minutes is gutless and uninspiring. But WAY more important is that the math says it's just a terrible decision. You go from like 8% winning to 1% winning. Inexcusable.

Always loved that picture. I get what youre saying. ANd really do agree to a point. Do believe the OC gets to at least share the blame. But agree, on some level the HC has to share in the blame, he made the hire and is part of the game plan

Bates has to be loving the chance to work with Darnold. If they do great things together that's his springboard to a head coaching position. You gotta have a QB with talent if you want to make the leap from young OC to HC somewhere.
