I confess I don't know much about Stafford. Hasn't he been hurt a lot? If so it would be a real concern - he wouldn't be much help on the sideline.
No, he hasn't. In his 12-year career, he has only missed games in two seasons. In his 2nd season (2010), he only played 3 games. Last season he only played 8 games. Otherwise, he has played 16 games every other season of his career. Here's a link to his career stats: https://www.nfl.com/players/matthew-stafford/stats/ Stafford's career QB rating is 89.8. It is adversely affected by his rookie season when it was only 61. Last season it was 106. Conversely, Sam's rookie rating was the 2nd highest of his career, and his career rating is 78.6. Stafford's TD to Interception ratio is almost 2-1 (279-143). Sam's ratio is 44 to 37. In terms of completion percentage, Stafford's is 62.62%, with his best season 67.23%, and Sam's is 59.58%, with his best season 61.9%.
Thanks. I guess I was remembering the 2nd season. I wouldn't be massively upset if they went with Stafford, as long as they get decent assets in return for Darnold. I don't believe they should just give Sam away. And frankly, if they get a competent CS and continue upgrading the talent I would expect Sam to put up numbers comparable to Stafford and he would likely be cheaper, not to mention a lot younger. I'm still of the belief that it makes sense to keep Darnold if his contract can be reworked to a more team friendly cost.
There's talk that Urban Meyer is interested in coaching in the NFL. If the Jets hired him, maybe that makes drafting Fields a stronger possibility? I'm not rooting for this to happen, but it made me wonder.
Like Bull O Brien passing on Hackenberg. We should have known. A lot will be said if Urban passes on fields.
Still so torn on draft Wilson or sticking with Sam. So tough. We really need a WR and RB. Denzel Mims was embarrassed by Ward today.
And it didn't help that Perriman wasn't really causing the Browns any difficulties. They could afford to keep a tight lid on Mims and not worry it would burn them.
