And I just explained how team's evaluation of who is best can depend on what they are grading. It's not that a team thinks they are taking a lesser player. It's that the system does bias the grading. In any case, Wilson is probably going to be QB #2 for most teams. Look at Kiper and McShay furiously changing their board and moving him up. It's not that Wilson is moving up. It's that someone told ESPN what actual NFL teams think.
Serious question for everyone on this board. Do you all really believe that Sam Darnold can go from the worst QB in the NFL in almost every statistical category to above average with the change of a coach and one or two new receivers? I always see and hear the Ryan Tannehill argument, which is good and all because the #GaseFreedomWatch, but Tannehill was never that bad under Adam Gase. Tannehill's problem was that the dude couldn't stay healthy.
It's possible. He will definitely improve with a better roster and better coaches around him. The question is "How much?" When he was drafted, I thought he had potential to be the best QB in the NFL. That did not happen. If Saleh/Douglas love Fields or Wilson, they should take them and trade Sam. If not, they should keep Sam and see how he does in 2021.
If you look at Josh Allen and Sam Darnold they were neck and neck over the 1st 2 years. Then Allen got another year in the RIGHT system plus Stephon Diggs. Darnold got even more players taken away and a team that quit on the coach. And here we are.
Josh Allen's ascent isn't just because the system is good and they got a #1 receiver. He does things this year that Sam Darnold has almost never does. Adding a #1 receiver and a good system won't turn Sam Darnold into a top 5 QB.
I would legit laugh to all the haters if Sam is still the QB next year. Personally, I don't make a big deal about it. If Sam is still there it means we have gave him great tools to succeed. If he is not there then good luck to the new guy.

It has absolutely nothing to do with being a hater. It has to do with the fact that Sam has been a terrible NFL QB in his 3 years as a starter. He has show next to no improvement; he's regressed to the point where he is worse than he was as a rookie. His 5th year option is coming up and it would be lunacy to pay him 25M on that option.
Percent of accurate passes thrown from a clean pocket, 56% from our Lord and Savior Sam Darnold. That puts him at 30th in the NFL.
Sam was drafted 3rd overall for a reason he also has regressed for a reason. He most likely won't be worth his fifth year option but building a great offensive core around the QB should be the priority #1. Improving the OL, Get WR1/Pitts, Get a RB if we can do that our QB (Sam or whoever) would be in way better shape. If we don't give tools to our QB then we are setting ourselves to fail again.
If Sam Darnold is retained, it won't be like 2019 or 2020, when he was in a funk and Gase just kept trotting him out there. They would likely sign a quality back-up to compete with Sam, and if he struggles, he hits the bench. If he succeeds, the Jets are in business. Like I said, it has more to do with Fields or Wilson. (or any other QB) If the Jets fall in love with either, you pick them. If they don't, then they should have no problem giving Sam one more chance.
You have to tip your hat to someone who knows their weaknesses and works hard to fix them. IDK if Sam didn't do this, or whether he was just "lazy" or stubborn, but if he wants any chance of remaining in the NFL as a starter he'd better talk to his buddy Josh and follow his recipe.
He also wasn't cut out for NY storm, good guy but terrible leading the crew. His lack of in game adjustments always pissed me off
He's a dark horse for me. Has a good arm, and great accuracy, but the most impressive thing is his ability to read and decide quickly. My big concern with him is he mobile enough? He's definitely not a "running QB", but is he cement footed? And I guess the other question I have to ask: was he that good because of all the great weapons he had? I mean Davonta Smith and Najee Harris will make ANY QB look good (which is why, if they're going to keep Darnold I hope they add these two also). Anyway, I see him as a possibility with a later pick.
Yes...with a caveat. It depends on if he's been ruined by playing a shitty offensive system almost designed to be the exact opposite of what he's good at, and behind one of, if not THE, worst OLs in the NFL for 3 years. He showed by his performances at the end (with a slight regression vs. NE) that he can be effective, but he has a LOT of work to do in fixing his fundamentals and so far he hasn't shown he can do that. All that said, with a new, competent CS that designs a system to his strengths, and adding a couple of premium weapons and improving the OL, he could become above average which could be good enough to win a SB. But best case, even if all that happens, I hope they draft his replacement this year and get him ready in case the best case scenario doesn't work out.
So the Jets would need almost everything to be perfect for Sam to become an above average QB? That doesn't sound ideal to me. Personally, I'd rather take my shot at Fields or Wilson at 2.
