If you haven't noticed over the past year or so the culture has changed. hell even marshall was kept in line. Adams and williams have been strong leaders in the locker room not tolerating nonsense and the jets kicked out wilkerson and his nonsense as well and richardson. because as you said he's an asshole but sometimes a wake up call can set someone right. sure some people never change but i'll take him for a year to prove he can Edit: also worth noting jax is in cap hell. they only have 11 mil this season and next season are projected to be 30 mil over the cap. They can't afford him which is why they let a talented WR like robinson walk this past off season.
I say take a 1 year flyer on the guy...If he is worth keeping next year you give him a contract, with an out after a year or two to protect the team in case the bad side of Fowler shows up again. If he isn't the player you want after this year, just let him walk. Teddy would be gone after this year anyway if we keep him. The good outweigh the bad. Might work out. ..might not, I say take the chance. The guy really improved year 1, 2 sacks, to year 2, 10 sacks. With luck he will get even better. I know he could regress & be a jerk, well then you let him walk at the end of the season.
Wrong. As a former 3rd overall draft pick they can not afford to keep him long term. Plain and simple. As a former 3rd overall draft pick not only would Fowler Jr's 5th year option been worth 14.2M (fully guaranteed) but Jacksonville as a Franchise will rank 31st (out of 32 teams) in available cap space come 2019's offseason. So please. Please don't confuse a team "not wanting a players talents" for a team who's in serious and absolute horrible cap hell come 2019 (and beyond). Because there's a big difference between the two. More like a gigantic one. And let's not make David Caldwell out to be some "genius" GM when A.) He can't afford his own homegrown talents due to B.) Being ranked 31st out of 32 teams in available salary cap space ala SALARY CAL HELL. The Jets and Mike Maccagnan are chomping at the bit bit for Fowler Jr because they know Jacksonville can not afford him long term. But the Jets can. And unfortunately for Jacksonville and Caldwell; they can not (sucks for them). Yea. Right. Some genius GM that Caldwell guy is. Not. I'm sure Tom Brady and N.E would have absolutely loved to keep Brandon Cooks long term (after a down right awesome 2017 campaign)... But... They couldn't afford to due so. Yea. Right. Some "bum" that Cooks kid was. I'm sure Goff & the Rams feel differently. I'm sure N.E does too considering they were FORCED to lose Cooks for a 1st round O-Lineman who just tore his ACL. (Inserts Jacksonville/Caldwell/Fowler Jr's current situation).
You need acouple of assholes on defense..need that edge & that nastiness. Its like a good hard rock band. The problem in the past was the jets had too many bad seeds & those same guys were also being counted on to set an example & be leaders. Bad situation. In this case the Jets already have firm leaders in place that carry respect to keep the renegades in check;Because you do need acouple. Other than fighting in TC has Fowler ever been noted as being a bad teammate or not working hard? Prior to this thread my understanding was he was great when healthy & at the team facility. It was acouple issues off the field as well as staying on it
I agree. Besides Rushing the passer is all about being a relentless asshole. If you are gonna have an asshole, it’s about the best position for it What’d he do anyway
very true. sometimes that "bill romanowski" effect makes a D play tough and nasty. always good to have an intimidator on defense. hell in hockey players are known for being "enforcers" and praised for it. as long as they stay out of trouble and play hard i don't see an issue.
I see that you and Stokes are having an oldtimers day along with @statjeff22 and @Cman60 . Enjoy. Lol.
I can say with confidence that a large chilled bottle of Strawberry Hill, a 1/2oz of Panama Red, a lovely park and a stacked female in a halter top /mini skirt combo made for a great afternoon! #AfternoonDelight
Does anybody really see Teddy's value as equal to Fowler? I very much doubt Jacksonville would even consider that trade unless they are desperate to dump him. I would make that trade in a heartbeat, but IMO there would have to be a 4th rounder included along with Teddy at minimum. Pass rushers don't grow on trees and Bortles just got an extension, why would they want a backup QB that hasn't played a regular season snap in 2 years at the expense of their pass rush which helped them get to the AFC championship last year?
Jags would be dumb to make the trade and get rid of a good pass rusher off the bench. Should a team give him a nice pay-day next year, the Jags will get a comp pick. They don't have much cap space in the first place so they won't be signing any big time FAs. Hopefully it's not us giving him a big contract. People bash Bortles all day and it's warranted, but the guy went to work against Pittsburgh and better play-calling by Marrone in that 2nd half against the Pats and they are in the SB. Maybe they win it.
Either do qbs. All things considered I’d say it’s as even as it could get. Definitely not giving teddy and picks
While pass rushers don't grow on trees, even more rare are capable QBs, which TB has proven to be. His only question mark is can he return to form and stay healthy? So far he seems to be proving he's back in form. As for having extended Bortles, at the time Jacksonville didn't really have any other options. Had they known for sure that TB would be an alternative they might've signed him themselves, but now he gives them a realistic insurance policy if Bortles doesn't pan out, which is a possibility, despite the extension. Add to all that is that the Jags can't afford to keep Fowler and they will lose him with nothing in return, so getting a potential FQB now is a great deal. The Jags are in "win now" mode. If Bortles doesn't step up, or he gets hurt, and they have no capable backup, their window closes. I'd say the pressure is much greater on Jacksonville to make this deal than the Jets.
https://elitesportsny.com/2018/08/21/new-york-jets-news-jaguars-discussing-dante-fowler-jr-trade/ According to this article, Teddy is not involved in the trade and Jacksonville wants a "premium" pick in return. That sounds like next year's 1st or 3rd round pick. I'd be okay with trading the 3rd, but not the 1st.
The more I think about it, the more I don't want to make a trade for this guy. Jags gotta be thinking that comp pick and some sucker will drop a load of cash on him. Shame Junior Galette got those 2 domestic violence chargers, he would be a good veteran pickup. Manish can eat a dick.
Yea. I'm 100% in favor of moving Teddy and either a 3rd or 4th for Fowler Jr. Or even Teddy + 2020's 2nd round pick in order to secure an outside/edge pass rusher such as Fowler Jr. etc, etc. But I'm not willing to see us part ways with a 1st round pick. I'd absolutely love to add Fowler Jr. to our Gang Green defense, but there are just way too many top rated OT's and edge/outside pass rushers come 2019's 1st round draft class (and we're pretty much guaranteed one of them).
