What is it with wanting to trade picks, particularly to strengthen the defense. We are dying for talented bodies in the offensive side of the ball. We need to fill the pipeline with draft picks in a number of positions. There is no way in hell we should consider trading our few remaining picks. Wait till year end, hit free agency hard, and make every draft pick count. We need way too much help, and are not good enough to trade any draft picks for any defensive position.
yup i can't argue with that logic. depends what we have to give up though. i wouldn't want to give up our 1st when we really need to draft a LT and it's a stacked class for o-line. but if we can get away with trading a 3rd rounder and maybe a 2nd round in 2020 i'd take that deal.
we have holes to fill. yes most of those holes are on offense especially the o-line but it doens't mean we don't need a pass rusher. we have FA, draft, and trades to fill those holes. if we can give up a 2nd and 3rd to fill a hole at OLB it makes sense it's better then drafting the next ducasse and devin smith
d lawrence, clowney, and dee ford are all on teams with plenty of cap room next year ... they are likely to be franchised the next tier of ufa is led by preston smith and fowler ... i think smith is a better player and i would target him. washington will be up against the cap so hopefully they wont be able to use the tag
An edge rusher doesn’t make us a contender this season. I’d wait it out for free agency. Keep the picks, find 3 worthwhile offensive lineman and draft them. Make a hard run at a top tier edge rusher in the offseason.
That's what some of us have been saying. My dream is for Mac to hit edge rusher hard in FA - maybe land 2 of them. A guard would be nice. There doesn't seem to be many LTs left. We know he'll need a competent back up QB......along with a few depth signings plus whoever he plans on re-signing.....he doesn't even need to spend it all. Then in the draft he drafts offense.....LT, C, RB ? WR ? Anything really - every single position could either be upgraded or simply use help.
You don't need to trade picks for a rusher when two or three really good ones will hit free agency next year. Save the picks whenever possible. If we don't make our picks count, we will be back in cap hell in no time.
i agree which is why i borught up shane ray, fowler, and lawerence but still no stone unturned. lawernce could get tagged, ray and fowler could go elsewhere and aren't the caliber of jones either. really depends. would you take jones or hansen and smith? the draft is a crapshoot at best and jones is a known commodity. and right now we don't have a ton of holes to fill and that would still leave us with a 1st and 3-7th round picks the next 2 years. plenty of picks. our main needs are LT, C, and WR for the offseason and we have free agency as well. it's a deep draft for o-line so we should be able to get a good one in the 1st
Agree. Smith or Jones are my preferences. Definitely need a LT and C. Move Long to guard. I want one more Guard for development. After that WR and year after next a stud RB
I'd love to add Barr, but he's more of a coverage backer than edge rusher. He doesn't have that many sacks in his career, but has a pretty fair number of passes defensed. In 4 1/2 years, he's had 10 1/2 sacks, 22 passes defensed, 1 interception, 7 forced fumbles, and 312 tackles.
In an ideal world, I'd love to see the Jets sign both Marpet and A.J. Cann, but know that won't happen if for no other reason than we can't cut or trade Long. We'll be lucky to get one of them. If it did, however, they could keep Cann at his normal RG position, play Marpet at C, and move Winters to LG or move Cann to LG, play Marpet at C and keep Winters at RG. If Winters was the weak link on the OL after that, the Jets could cut him with no cap hit, play Cann at one OG spot, Marpet at the other, and then they could draft a C. Given that the above won't happen, I'd rather sign Ali Marpet as the new LG/C, draft a C in the 3rd round and keep Long. Marpet would probably beat out Long at LG. A healthy Long would probably be OK at C, but if not, they could play Long at LG and Marpet at C. The rookie could provide depth at C and maybe OG. And of course, I want Mac to sign at least one FA edge rusher, and use the #1 pick on their new LT.
Unlike any other position in football I'm afraid OL will be at a super premium in 2019. It will be a war both in the draft and free agency to stack up at LT, C and G. There are just too many teams with glaring holes in the OL. Mac better be ready to do battle with his wallet and his brain.
Why can't long be cut? He has no money guaranteed after this season, his total salary and bonus is around 6 million. So 3 million due for the remainder of the season. All ready accounted for in the cap figures. He will likely be moved or released after the season.
Has Fowler even been playing this season? Averaging 1 tackle and 1/3 a sack a game so far this season and people here are actually talking about trading a 3rd round pick for him?
He's playing less than 1/3 of the snaps. But he's behind some good players in Calais Campbell and Ngakoue . ( Not sure if the spelling is correct)
