Exactly. And Fowler Jr is due $7,474,171 this year, so moving Fowler Jr for Teddy would pretty much have them back to where they started (before the trade). But hey, at least they'll actually have a talented QB. And just so you do know... Jacksonville being able to keep or not being able to keep Fowler Jr (long term) when in comparison to being able to afford Teddy (sign & trade) is a big, big difference. Because the last time I checked? Teddy wouldn't be due no $14M-15M come next season as is Fowler Jr (5th year option)... Now would he? No... He wouldn't be. So, no. You do not have to be some type of "salary cap guru" in order to understand common sense.
Teddy will make up to $15 million this season if he starts and makes the playoffs, that's on Jax. Jets eat the $1 million in bonus and workout. Fowler cost the Jets $3,638,216 for his base salary. That's all the cap relief Jax gets. That's an additional $7-11 million added to Jax cap. That's not exactly back to where they started. Both Teddy and Fowler are FAs next year. There is no telling what their market value will be in 19. It's going to depend on their level of pay. If Teddy leads Jax to the Super Bowl, which by your logic he should. Being much better than Bortles and Jax missing the game by 1 play, his value will far exceed Fowler's next year. Your right , no need to be a cap Guru to see that!!!
The Jets were a few plays from 2 SuperBowls in recent history But we killed Tanny ...... and have sucked for a decade So which is it? Do you like being there and in cap hell, or do you not like being there? Not being facetious
It's only hell when your roster is top loaded with overpaid bums. If you have a solid core of highly paid players who are good and draft well to supplement and replenish your roster year to year, it's more like heaven.
At the end of the day as a fan base we all know we lack an explosive pass rush as well an O-Line. Our two biggest weaknesses and/or concerns. So imo we (as fans) should be thrilled to see our GM in Mike Maccagnan looking to strike a trade asap with a pass rushing talent such as Fowler Jr (while eliminating one of our two biggest weaknesses/concerns). If we're able to land Fowler Jr. there is no question about it, Maccagnan will attack our Offensive Line like never before through both the draft and free agency come 2019's offseason. I absolutely love the direction we're heading in with a potential FQB due to a trade from 6th to 3rd and a talented young defense behind a ton of available cap space moving forward. . We're literally a pass rusher (or two) and a Franchise LT away from being serious contenders for a very, very long time.
That's why I say trade for him. He will be on a 1 year trial to prove he is worthy of a long term contract. If Mac & Bowles don't think he is worthy of a contract, just let him walk in '19 free agency. It's worth the risk to see if he can get his act together or not.
I understand why they drafted Ngakoue, and that it takes a year or so to get over an ACL tear. Noah was a mental fart. LOL Ngakoue's first name is Yannick and Yannick Noah came to mind. I know that college 4-3 DEs are looked at by both 4-3 and 3-4 NFL teams and that Fowler was looked at by both. Still, he's not used to playing standing up, setting the edge/playing the run or dropping into coverage. I don't see the sense in trading anything of real value for a player who may only be a situational pass rusher (even though possibly a very, very good one). I wouldn't mind trading a 4th round pick or lower for him and taking a chance on him if he didn't have the character/temper issues, but he does. That is part of my objection. My major objection is trading for a player who has worn out his welcome with the team that drafted him, who is a freaking head case, and that team is looking to dump him. We're supposedly trying to change the culture. I'm not happy with all the players the Jets have who have been arrested for drunk driving. At least I understand how that can happen, but I don't want a player who is violent off the field. I've been pretty consistent since I joined this board and before on other Jets fan sites that I don't want low character types on the Jets or players who wind up getting arrested. They wind up being distractions and major black eyes/headaches for the franchise. If Fowler were just immature or if incidents were blown out of proportion that might be one thing, but I haven't seen anything to indicate that. He has anger issues or is a headcase and I simply don't think he's a good risk. Finally, quality starting QBs don't grow on trees. We all know that. I think that we possibly can get more for Teddy than a situational pass rusher. We could wind up needing Teddy this season. I certainly don't want to trade Teddy, a player of the highest character for someone of low character. I also don't want to trade Teddy to another AFC team who already has a great D and a better GM than we have. It would just be another team we'd have to go through to get to the SB. When we trade Teddy, I want it to be to an NFC team. I hope that a team or teams will lose their starting QB, there will be competition for Teddy's services, and the Jets can get multiple picks for him (at least a 2nd and 4th round pick if not better).
So even when debating whether we should bring a POS to the team it's somehow an invite to drag one of our players down to his level?
I didn't say we would blast through all of it. If you were trying to impress (aka: get laid), having a 1/2 oz in a baggie and a chilled bottle of wine was a great presentation.
The thought of giving this guy a boatload of $ if he has a great season would absolutely scare the crap out of me.
He already has lol he signed a fully guaranteed 4 year $23M+ contract with over a $15 million dollar signing bonus. And that was only a couple of days after he tore his ACL.
Exactly... but he’ll be do another and I’m not sure I want to be the one to give it to him . Look , I know we are desperate for a pass rusher but let’s be smart about the caliber of men we bring into this locker room both on and off the field ... we have a young team , I’m not sure he’s the best fit judging from his past exploits . The hell with draft picks, Maybe we should just offer the Jags some Boone’s farm strawberry wine and a half ounce of CMans homegrown stuff
Given the present NFL policy, the Jags would undoubtedly be fined millions and suspended 8 games which would give them plenty time to finish off both the wine and the weed!
He should know it but he’s not in their building and besides, he maybe willing to take that risk. He’s a great player but he could be one of those guys that fucks up a really good locker room that seems to be jelling. Hate to mess with that.
So wait a minute. You mean to tell me that some dude just googled some cap info that he claims are “facts” but is unaware, clueless and absolutely oblivious to the “fact” that those “facts” are not static and can change, and has condescendingly trotted them out not once, not twice, not thrice, not 4 times but 5 times claiming some Jet fans neither comprehend nor understand it, but clearly he doesn’t know what he’s talking about? It’s gotten to the point where all you can do is laugh.
