Thank you for bringing this to my attention however I did see the 2019 cap space statistic. That’s not an impossible task to get out of, because of his ability to draft good players which for some reason you seem to push to the side. They will cut the excess fat from the team and have young players ready to step in and take the place of the guys they cut. That is exactly what a good GM does, Mac will have the same problem if and when he starts to hit on most of his draft picks. You are criticizing Caldwell for creating the one thing all fans want their teams to do, have a pipeline of young players ready to take over the starting positions when the team has to cut the veterans because of age or they become too expensive and cause salary cap issues.
If my memory serves me right, he missed his entire rookie season due to an ACL. For most players it takes another full season before they are back to their pre-ACL form so that means his sophomore season was pretty much a waste. During that time Ngakoue emerged and they acquired Campbell. Last year, was probably the first time he was completely 100% and he produced in his limited role. Their happiness with him is a whole separate argument which I'm not debating. It's obvious they are not happy with him as they declined to pick up his fifth year option and he's on the trading block. Based on all the drama he's been part of in his short tenure in the NFL would appear that he is a f*cking head case. I can see how a no nonsense old school NFL guy like Coughlin would be ready to get rid of him. I have no clue who this Noah you are referring to as I don't keep up with the Jags roster like that but if he's a DE, I would think they may have been hedging their best because Fowler was coming back from a major knee injury. Not to mentioned the fact that you can never have too many pas rushers. With regards to him standing up, most 3-4 OLBs were college 4-3 DEs. Coming out he was being looked at by both 3-4 and 4-3 defensive teams; I'm not worried one bit about that transition. Ngakoue would be the guy he needed to beat out as in the 4-3 you usually pair your speed rusher opposite a stout power rusher. That said, even if it were true, not being able to beat out Campbell is not some kind of red flag. There's no Campbell on this roster so he should be fine. To be honest I never advocated the price (i.e. Teddy), I just didn't get why you were hung up on the whole he wasn't a starter thing as it was IMO somewhat irrelevant in his case. Still if the team felt comfortable with him from a character standpoint and Teddy was what it took to seal the deal, I would personally drive Teddy to JAX. He's a one year rental who himself appears technically will not be a starter; why are you holding on so tight?
It seems like the Jets painted themselves in a corner and the only way out is to pull the pin on a grenade. No good solutions right now.
There are still a handful of Jet fans who are unaware, clueless and absolutely oblivious to the franchise positions in the NFL that you don’t let walk. QB, LT, Elite Pass Rush Specialists, especially ones drafted THIRD. That are only 24. From the SEC. That are 6-3 260 pounds. Drafted third. There is something fundamentally wrong—more than money, REGARDLESS of Cap Space which can be manipulated—where losing ELITE X-factor type talent cannot be manipulated—with trading the third pick in the draft out of Florida or letting him walk. For those who couldn’t comprehend nor (poor grammar, apologies) understand (same as comprehend) the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th & 5th time. The guy’s an asshole and if his elite talent outweighed his assholishness, they would have figured out a way to extend him and spread his cap hit out to keep him. Maybe more stats will help.
This is great. He's like "ok you two bitches, when I say go, you two go at it". And just looks on like he's watching a GEICO commercial. What a POS.
Wasn't it his girlfriend and his baby's momma? He actually brought the GF to babys momma's houst to fight her.
From what I understand, Bowles is insisting to Mac that a condition to acquiring Fowler is he makes sure that he moves in with one of our role model players R Anderson
Jacksonville is not in cap hell because they've hit on their draft picks. They are in cap hell because they've built their team through free agency with some awful contracts. DT: Marcell Dareus. 6 years. $96,574,118. And doesn't expire until 2022. DT: Malik Jackson. 6 years. $85,500,000. And doesn't expire until 2022. CB: A.J Bouye. 5 years. $67,500,000. And doesn't expire until 2022. G: Andrew Norwell. 5 years. $66,500,000. And doesn't expire until 2023. DE: Calais Campbell. 4 years. $60,000,000. And doesn't expire until 2021. These are their top 5 highest paid players. And none of them were "drafted" by Jacksonville (and their crap GM). The idea/myth that the Jaguars are a team who've built some type of super talented team through the draft is a complete farce. Their top 5 highest paid players are all Free Agent signings and their 6th highest paid player in Blake Bortles was drafted 3rd overall (1st round) and 5 years later he's been anything but a 1st round QB (who's now on an awful 3 year $54,000,000 contract in which doesn't expire until 2021). They've already lost Allen Robinson this past offseason, on the verge of losing Fowler Jr and could be set to lose the likes of T.J Yeldon (2019), Myles Jack (2020) and Yannick Ngakoue (2020) due to being committed to 5 key free agent's (highest paid) in Marcell Dareus, Malik Jackson, A.J Bouye, Andrew Norwell and Calais Campbell along with overpaying a middle of the pack QB in Blake Bortles who's their 6th highest paid player.
If what you're saying is true, that the Jags know Fowler is a bad risk, don't you think Macc would know this too? When you consider that Macc purged the Jets of bad characters, that's pretty strong evidence that if he thinks Fowler fits that profile he'll pass on him. I trust that Macc will make the right decision in the end. It's not like any of us here on TGG will determine what happens, all we can do is express our opinion as to what we would like to see happen. For me, I would like it if Macc deems Fowler worth the investment of a QB who might or might not be able to play and stay healthy and for who he invested a million dollars. But if Macc thinks Fowler is too risky and passes, it's not the end of the world.
Yet you who are suddenly a cap Guru kept insisting they should Trade for Teddy and start him over Bortles which would add another 7-10 million to their cap hell.
Players who are risks come cheap If he us a risk offer a cheap deal I’m ok with it if........”the price is right!!” I trust Mac
Fowler is from St Petersburg went to UF & now plays for Jacksonville. If he has off the field problems wouldnt it make sense for him to get out of his hood like hes never done similar to Mo Wilk?
Can you really say the GM is crap, when they were a handful of plays away from the superbowl last year? They are definitely in cap hell, but I wouldn't call the GM crap just yet. For all we know they make the super bowl this year and possibly even win it. They will be in the thick of it, for sure.
Bortles is their highest paid player yet he's not on your top 5 list. Norwell is the only player they are stuck with. Dareus can be cut next year with zero cap hit. Campbell can be cut with $ 5 million dead cap Buoy and Jackson can be cut with post June 1 designations for $2 million cap hit each. Those moves free up $45 million . But they don't have to cut them all . When you go to OTC, .take a look at the # of players under contract as well as who the free agents are. You will get a nuch clearer picture of the teams actual cap space when you factor in who is due for extensions, cost to resign/ replace free agents. You need to factor all of that info in.
That's the nature of the league. Build a team, then grab the big ticket FAs and hope you get the ring in the small window. The Eagles are projected at ($30,395,210) over next off season. Guess they should fire Roseman too. That's what makes NEs run so remarkable. It's near impossible to sustain a Super Bowl contender in today's market.
